View Full Version : Congratulations To Roger Clemens

He beat Randy Johnson and Roy Oswalt (2nd and 3rd) to take his unprecedented 7th Cy Young award. I'd be shocked to see him retire.

Let's face it. The Rocket is one of the best pitchers of all time, and I can't help but love the guy.

Clemens is one of the best, yes.

A sure hall of famer, yes.

Love the guy? I dunno.... he DID pitch in Yankee pinstripes...

Congrats Roger... Well deserved! Although I wouldn't have argued if Randy Johnson had won it either, he was AMAZING in 2004.

I still hate him. Cy young shmy young, if he wants to be an asshole towards Boston fans he doesn't need my respect.

we showed him respect last year during the regular season in his final regular season start against us, which was possibly his last against us.

he came out and gave a curtain call, i dont think he is an asshole to many red sox fans, its the management that basically turned him away from boston.

my parents friends are bestfriends with the clemens family, and they say they are incredibly nice people.

i would show him respect for what hes done, whether you like him or not.

its like what so many celtics fans say to magic johnson..."i respect you but i dont like you."

there are so many boston fans that hate clemens... it's not even funny. he's one of the greatest pitchers to ever pitch and people hate him. it's retarted. sox let him go and he signed with the blue jays, then he was TRADED to the yankees. i don't think he had a no trade clause in his contract.

as for clemens winning the cy young, that's a huge negative, it should have went to randy johnson, hands down.

I have no real problems with Clemens, especially after he shafted the Yankees. Let the man go into the Hall, preferably in a Sox cap. All will be forgiven.

He deserved but I think if RJ was on a better team so his win loss column looked better he would have won. He is better at most stats beside the win loss just because he's on the DBacks and Clemens is on one of the most high powered offense.

Thanks john, that proved my point, Randy won every single category except wins which is for obvious reasons.

I think the big turning point was Roger's final run. The 'stros won all 8 of Roger's final starts, and he compiled a 6-0 record over that run. He was a huge reason they made it to the playoffs. But Johnson's statistics are excellent, the fact is he played for the worst team in baseball.

But the award is for the best pitcher, not the best pitcher on a good team.

CalvnHobs6

Not necessarily the best team (cause the Astros weren't), but I believe they take into account how valuable a pitcher is for his team.

I agree with this post 100%.

I don't LIKE Jeter. I don't LIKE Bernie Williams, Joe Torre, etc. I don't LIKE them mostly because of the uniform that they wear.

Do I RESPECT them? Absolutely. They are the kind of folks that play the game RIGHT, and play hard.

Clemens has had his problems with Boston ownership, and some drama with Piazza, and has had the reputation for being a "head hunter," but so has Pedro Martinez. Martinez has created plenty of drama especially with some Yankees, and nobody's hating on him.

Clemens proved that it's not all about money with him. He went to Houston for far less money Georgie would have given him, and he was the bargain of the century. He wanted to be at home with his family, but still play the game that he loves. I RESPECT that.

I have the deepest respect for what Clemens has been able to do. He was the second best pitcher in the National League last year (Sorry Roger, but Randy was better) at 42 years old. He was the ace of that staff, and he carried that pitching staff. He's a warrior in every sense of the word, and I, personally, would welcome him back to Boston with open arms (if he wanted to come back, which he doesn't).

My father hates Clemens too. There's some fans that just don't get over grudges.

Not me. Congratulations Roger!

bruno, the problem is that so many people are too infatuated with hating the yankees. they forget how to love the sox. i don't hate the yankees, i hate a few specific players, some just happen to be on the yankees.

i love the sox wayyyy more than i hate the yankees

That should be the motto of Red Sox fans. Yeah, you should hate the Yanks with a passion, but you should love the Sox with more of a passion.

Well, we don't really chant it as in, the yankees suck like the yankees literally suck and are a bad team. We say yankees suck meaning, you suck because we hate you.
