View Full Version : St Pedros Day 7/26/15 v Tigers

For the vast majority of Pedro's time in Boston, I lived within walking distance of Fenway. I got ton of cheap tickets on gamedays and saw many great games. Back in the late 90's/early 00's, it was a different feeling around town on gameday if Pedro was pitching. No one ever captured Boston's heart like he did. He was the greatest pitcher I ever saw. He is a very interesting, brilliant and funny guy. I still remember game 5 of the 1999 ALDS like it was yesterday. 1999 will always mean the world to me. I graduated college, went to more Sox games than any other year, adopted the greatest dog ever and named him Pedro.

No matter how much this team sucks now, they can never take away those moments from me.

If there is any pride left, the Sox need to win today. Those old Sox teams would go on losing streaks, but Pedro could always be the stopper to turn things around. Let's win this one for the greatest living pitcher, Pedro.

A swig of Presidente, for the great Pedro Martinez!

What MVP said about Pedro being brilliant is so true. The guy is wicked smart. I have never heard him sound stupid. I was always amazed at how strong and powerful Pedro was and for so long with what I see as a somewhat slight frame and build.

His brain and his ability to focus in on his pitches always seemed to make batters either intimidated or confused.

I've seen a bunch of extremely talented and "dominant" pitchers over the years including Bob Gibson, Juan Marichal , and Vida Blue.

Pedro was just the best. And I don't say that as a homer Sox fan.

GO SOX!!!!!!!1!1

Pedro gave a special mention to Dan Duquette. Duke did pull off two of the greatest trades in Boston Red Sox history. Carl Pavano and Tony Armas Jr for Pedro. The other one being Heathcliffe Slocumb for Jason Varitek and Derek Lowe.

There's a guy named Laurence Leavy, a.k.a. Marlins Man. When he's not at Marlins game with his season tickets, he's traveling across the country attending the biggest sports events. He became famous at last year's WS, when his bright orange Marlins jersey and Marlins visor, the same outfit he always wears, stuck out among the Royal Blue of KC fans. Since then, he's sat courtside at the NBA Finals, and Miami Heat games, rink side at Stanley Cup Finals games, and was there to see American Pharoah win the Triple Crown. But his main goal this season is to sit behind the plate at every single Sunday Night Baseball game. After being in LA last week, he was in DC on Monday, then in NYC for 4 days (2 Yankee games, 2 Mets games), and was supposed to be in Boston yesterday, but got held up. But he's here tonight.

OMG yeah, totally, you make one racially insensitive comment on a national news radio show, and the for-profit business that employs you lets you go in order to avoid losing advertisers, viewers, and profit! What a friggin' world.

You can argue all day about what constitutes racism versus what is just "insensitivity", but what it comes down to is that any business has a right to fire someone as long as it is not for a discriminatory reason (race, gender, sexual identity, nationality, et cetera). Whether we like it or not, in this time everything that celebrities do or say is recorded. Hell, most of what you and I say is recorded in some way. We all know the kinds of assholish things that you can look like an asshole for saying. Racist comments, sexist comments, rape apologist speeches, admitting that you watched and enjoyed Little Nicky, and I'm sorry, but if you speak like Cowherd spoke and your job fired you rather than lose business to the bad PR, I have no sympathy for you whatsoever.

Lose business? Is anybody boycotting the recording industry for the language in today"s music?

No, because bad language alone is not anything that loses a business money, and the racially charged lyrics in certain songs and genres is exactly their business model. But the Clippers were on the verge of losing big money in advertising and boycotted merchandise with the Sterling thing, for example, and the NBA cut him loose rather than deal with the fallout. Whether or not you agree with what Cowherd said, ESPN was well within their rights as his employer to say "Shit, we don't want anything to do with whatever happens with this. Bye"

At this rate, Ortiz is going to hit number 500 next week.

Good. Then he can retire and Goldie Locks can be DH.

Ross walks bases full, Breslow gives up double and single, Ogando gives up homer. Makes it 11-9?

So, I'm watching this game, the 1st game I've watched since the ASG. I guess I should watch every game again, the way the offense has been going tonight.

Nice throw Fatboy.

Another one...?????. I'm right there with you on him. . . every night it's something.......

he's showed no game since putting on a Sox jersey.......

I'd flush the contract if I could............ take a hit.............. but there are also other huge gaps....... can't loose too much on the purge.....

Very happy with tonight's game. Hopefully we can go on decent little run, eh?

If we can take things step by step, one series at a time, we can build some momentum. Just win the series. That's all I'm looking for. I don't expect us to come all the way back, but I would like something to watch until football season.
