probably split time. its going to be interesting seeing tino in a yanks uni again. his performance might change drastically. we shall see. if giambi can prove he can do just as well without the roids, he will get the starting job. he may not hit HRs every time up, but solid hits will get him somewhere.

I liked tino when he wasn't a yankee. It was like the comeback story.

Tino's washed up garbage. In a platoon situation, he'll be lucky to have 15 hrs. And that .265 BA will only drop, but it's still an upgrade I guess ;) .

Well, it took about 5 seconds.

I tried to find some time to do that.

so? With Beltran, Matsui, Sheffield, A-Rod, Jeter, Womack, Bernie, and Posada, You could have a guy hitting .010 and still win.

Well, put it this way: the Yanks haven't won a World Series since Tino left. I guess George is trying to stack the deck any way he can.

Martinez before he left was a Paul O'Neil type player: He always did his best with the game on the line.

He seems to have lost a bit since he left, but I would not be surprised if he hits .270 with 20ish homers for the Yankees in 2005.... and with that lineup.... that's good enough.

I'm sorry, are you recycling a Yankee fan excuse for why Tino has only hit .239/.326/.359 in Postseason play? 9 out of 20 postseason series, did he bat below the Mendoza line. 9 out of 20, he slugged below .333. 9 out of 20, he had an OBP below .273. 9 out of 20, all small sample size. .239/.326/.359, is 348 at bats worth of large sample size suckage. That's Yankee-up-three-games-to-none bad.

Wow, I just got owned. Please keep in mind though that I am in no way, shape, or form a Yankee fan.

For some reason I had in my head Tino Martinez' as a postseason hero. I hadn't looked up the statistics, but did after you pointed this out.

I was wrong, and unlike Yankee fans... I can admit that.
