Reese is going to have the best offensive season of his career under the guidance of Papa Jack and hitting at Fenway. What a beautiful touch with that Gold Glove.

Pokey has been a Fenway favorite ever since he first stepped on the field, the fact that he has been swinging the bat makes him all the more lovable.

I'll say this right now:

If the Red Sox win the World Series this season, the reason or final play will be made by POKEY REESE. Now it can be offensively or defensively, but Pokey will be the player who ultimately saves or wins the game for us. What a fairy tale that would be.

I love his defense, attitude and appreciation he has playing in Boston. And more recently, his hitting.

I hope they lock him up for years. Shouldn't take more than five minutes.

Reese does commit an error or two, and isn't anything amazing offensively (except for hot days like today) but he can sure steal hits and turn a quick double play.

It&#39;s Pokey Reese, he does still suck. One game doesnt change his talent level. He may have the best offensive season of his career this year, but that doesnt necessarily mean much. Considering he has a career .309 OBP, there is a lot to improve upon.

How can you say he sucks? offensively maybe...but if this is his best offesive season, and he lives up to his gold glove winning defense...then we have a good player.

Pokey is going to have some good offensive games, and some very, very bad offensive games. Let&#39;s not let the occasional good ones distort our view of his ultimate performance at the plate. Pokey&#39;s here for his defense, and he&#39;s earning his keep with that. Whether or not that makes him more valuable than Bellhorn&#39;s OBP skills remains to be seen.

Absolutively 100% correct. Pokey is known for his defense, any offense is a plus from him. I certainly would not expect him to keep hitting well. He&#39;ll most likely hit .240 for the season.

But I do think that his defense is valuable. For so many years the sox have been lead footed sucky fielders, and now he comes around and changes that. I like this. :)

He isnt great, he isnt horrible. Hes not exactly in the middle either. On a scale from 1-10 I&#39;d say he&#39;s a 3 or a 4. But you need those guys on teams, you cant have all superstars. I mean, look at the yankees. They have so many superstars, and then they have Derek Jeter. :D

His defense, however, is awesome.

I don&#39;t want to flirt with sacrilege, but be honest and raise your hand if you&#39;ve been watching a game or highlight clip where Pokey makes a great play and you sat there wondering: "if Nomar was playing SS today would he have made that same play?" Nomar&#39;s a great defensive short stop, but with the type of injuries he&#39;s had recently (wrist and achillies) you can&#39;t help but wonder if he&#39;s going to soon turn into a defensive liability.

Pokey&#39;s got a Gold Glove....

I think this too at times. Whenever he ranges over to his left behind second and bends over to scoop up a ball, or if a sharply hit ball comes screaming off of the grass and bounces right in front of him, I always picture Nomar bobbling it or missing it. Nomar is great defensively, I love him and would take him over Pokey any day of the week, but those thoughts plague me as well. :huh:
