Good performance in our system again, this guy looks like a future ace.

A bit quick to jump on the "future ace" bandwagon, but he could be. The stuff is there. If he holds it together, we could have a real stud on our hands. The way he's pitching he could finish the season in Pawtucket. Although, there's no need to rush him.

By the way, he has 22 K's and 0 walks in 10 innings while allowing only 4 hits and 1 run.

Good stuff. Although it seems like our pitching prospects never really develop.

Make that 28 K's and 1 walk in 14 innings.

No one ever talks about this guy, but I think that out of all the pitchers in our system, Sanchez will be the one who will end up having the best MLB career. He's only 21, is 6-1 with a 2.40 ERA, and has 89 K's and 23 BB. The other day he pitched a 7 inning 1 hitter for Wilmington.

Sweet. Where does our farm system rank nowadays anyway? And where will they rank should we sign our top draft picks this year?

I'd say in the 10-15 range.

That's quite a jump. I think last year they were like 25th.

Yeah, we had a horrendous farm team a couple of years ago. Theo did a great job building it back up.

Our scouting and development has changed drastically in the past several years.

5 years ago we had absolute trash in our farm system. We are now bordering on a GREAT farm system.

Sanchez's line from last night's Portland vs. New Hampshire game:

7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 11 K, 2 BB

Portland vs. New Britain 7/28/05

6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 3 K

Portland vs. New Hampshire 8/28

3.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K

He left the game with a hand/wrist injury. I don't have any other details yet. I'd assume they shut him down for the year and start him off in AA next year with a quick call up to AAA, or they may go ahead and promote him to Pawtuckett to start next year.

Off topic, but since it is future star pitchers, why do you guys think of phillip hughes? I've heard great things about him.

Sanchez left the game early due to arm and shoulder soreness. Link:

I heard it was a blister, who knows.

And on Hughes, he hasn't pitched in a month after being shut down with shoulder trouble. And he developed shoulder trouble despite a strict order to not throw breaking pitches at all.

Breaking pitches actually damage the elbow more than they damage the shoulder. The heater does the most damage to the shoulder.
