CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Carlos Zambrano (http://si.com/baseball/mlb/players/6559/index.html) has stepped up in the absence of Kerry Wood (http://si.com/baseball/mlb/players/5982/index.html) and Mark Prior (http://si.com/baseball/mlb/players/6787/index.html) for the Chicago Cubs (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/teams/cubs/index.html) . On Saturday, he faces the imposing lineup of the Boston Red Sox (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/teams/red_sox/index.html) .

In his last four starts, Zambrano (4-3, 2.94 ERA) has yielded just three earned runs. He gave up three hits in seven scoreless innings in a win over first-place San Diego last Sunday.

Zambrano is 3-1 with a 1.50 ERA in day games. Opponents are hitting just .188 against him.

The Red Sox (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/teams/red_sox/index.html) counter with Wade Miller (http://si.com/baseball/mlb/players/6270/index.html) (2-1, 4.73), who is 4-0 lifetime at Wrigley Field. He surrendered three runs and nine hits in 6 1/3 innings against the Los Angeles Angels (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/teams/angels/index.html) of Anaheim last Sunday but did not get a decision.

Jeromy Burnitz (http://si.com/baseball/mlb/players/5061/index.html) homered twice and Greg Maddux (http://si.com/baseball/mlb/players/3933/index.html) hit his first in six years to lead a 20-hit attack as the Cubs posted a 14-6 triumph over Boston on Friday.

David Ortiz (http://si.com/baseball/mlb/players/5909/index.html) hit a pair of home runs for the Red Sox (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/teams/red_sox/index.html) , who have dropped three of four.

It is the first meeting between the teams since the 1918 World Series.

I have a horrendous feeling about this game. I love Wade Millar more than most Sox fans, but I just feel like he's going to get crushed. Also, Carlos Zambrano is one of my favorite pitchers and one of the best in the National League. I think he goes double-digit K's today.

Actually, I have a gut feeling the bats will break out today. Even a Manny HR!

Actually, I have a gut feeling that if we faced him, Carlos Sambrano would get rocked... Now, Carlos Zambrano on the other hand...

But when you predict a loss, we usually win. :) YES!

Papi didn't move at all! Would he have moved if the score was tied?

We blew a 4-0 lead to lose 6-7!!! The redsox need to wake up quick. The yankees are playing like garbage and are only 2 games behind us!! WTF??

This team just absolutely SUCKS. They are a lot like the Yankees, actually. They have good players who come up big sometimes, but their pitching is simply awful. It is just really, really average. We don't have a single pitcher who is overpowering. I am just really pissed off at this team right now and there is no ONE person I can point to with my frustration. We get a 4-0 lead, and blow it against the Cubs. Then, of course, we put up a little bit of a whimper in the 9th inning. TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE GUYS! What the hell is wrong with Manny? Why do we keep thinking Damon is such a good defensive outfielder? He has no arm and doesn't catch a lot of balls that other "good" fielding CF's would have without too much trouble. Damon's a great hitter, so we shold obviously like him for that, but let's not kid ourselves.. he's not Beltran, he's not Hunter. I also feel like the umps play a much more significant role with the red sox than a lot of other teams. We take so many pitches that if there's an ump who just likes the pitcher to hit the mit (as in todays game) we don't get walks and we don't win. Teams that consistently throw first pitch strikes can kill our team.

ARGHHHHHHHHHH

I don't know what's wrong with Manny. and like I feel bad if it's something personal but my God. He was 0 for 4 for most of the game. this is getting ridiculous.

Yeah, also if you look, day games have much fewer posts... so much for that theory, dumbass. Anyways, this loss, just hurt. I turned it off in the bottom of the 8th to go do a few things, I come back down and they are up 7-4. I was so fucking pissed. I was still glad that we were still able to come back and score a few runs and make it interesting. We really, really, really need bullpen help though...

yeah we reallllllly do.

In my opinion, bullpen help should be defined as GETTING RID OF ALAN EMBREE and Matt Mantei.

Matt's not always terrible, though the bad outweighs the good. Embree is just plain horrible. we need to replace him ASAP. bring Dinardo back maybe.

Not to throw all the blame on Papi, because it wuld be undeserving, but I think his strikeout (the one he didn't even attempt to run out) was the turning point in the game. It looked like he might actually have made it to first if he just ran. If he had, the bases would've been loaded for Manny. What better way to break out of a slump than to bat in a situation where the pitcher has to throw strikes? Instead, the Sox end a potential blowout rally, and the Cubs start their's the next inning.

I cringe everytime Manny comes up to bat. it's gotten to that very sad point.
