Wade Miller versus Josh Fogg. Discuss.

We need Wade Miller to step it up after his poor outing against the Cubbies last weekend. The one thing that worries me is that Wade Miller has 4 walks and 4 strikeouts in June. His K's per 9, which was always above 7 with Houston, is 5.49 so far this season.

The optimist would say we haven't seen the best of Wade Miller yet.
The pessimist says Wade Miller isn't as good as he was in Houston.

Time will tell which will be the case, I'm leaning toward the first.

Josh Fogg gives up a limited number of runs despite the fact that he doesn't dominate. Opponents are hitting .276 against him this season and his K's/9 are even worse than Miller's at 4.46

Lefties destroy him (.336/.400/.612) so the Red Sox should handle him just fine with Damon, Nixon, Ortiz, Varitek, Bellhorn, and Mueller... this might be a good day to give Olerud the start given the dramatic righty/lefty splits.

The Red Sox really should win this game.

Miller's got to be more effective with his pitch count. He's always at 100 by the 6th inning.
This year, in 39.1 innings, he's thrown a whopping 683 pitches which averages out to 17.4 pitches per inning.:o

He has been MUCH better at Fenway though: 2-0, 2.55 ERA, 20 hits in 24.2 innings, 16K, 9BB and a .220 BAA.

But again, in 4 starts there he's only pitched an average of 6 innings. The good news is that in 2 of his last 3 starts he's gone 7 innings, so maybe he's getting more comfortable. :dunno:

In addition to the Sox winning, the Orioles just dropped a home game to the lowly Rockies (Who, I think, are on pace for the worst road record in MLB history) :D

Missed the game today, had a look at the box score and it looks like Miller didn't step up tonight. I heard three of the four runs were in the first inning, though. Can anyone tell me how he was throwing? Was he consistently over 90? Was his breaking stuff sharp? We need this guy down the stretch.

There was no sharpness. If not for Bellhorn and Mueller, hed've been the losing pitcher and a contender for "most pathetic balls out of 100 pitches"

He was missing a lot and threw a bunch of pitches early. He gave up a lot of 2 out hits. Damon misplayed a ball that led to 2 runs which didn't help.

Oh, by the way. Today at 10am (and again repeated on Monday at midnight) on Spike TV they are showing a program called "Maximum MLB". I've never seen it but I think it's a lot like This Week in Baseball. Anyway, this week they are doing a story on the Sox/Cubs series. They'll have Arroyo wired up so you can hear the players yapping and stuff. I saw a preview on MLB.com and it looked interesting/funny.
