That's some good news for hockey fans, such as me. Last season was supposed to be Luc Robitaille's last season. I really hope he plays this season before he goes to the Hall of Fame years from now. Go Kings!

Will any network pick up (non Bruin) NHL games this year? Last I heard, ESPN decided not to.

Thank God. Hockey is one sport I love to watch even when my team is terrible, like the Rangers have been the past 7 or 8 years. I think the million dollar question is now, who will get Crosby.

Does anyone know a link to each team's team-vs-team all-time record?

Maybe under all-time records on NHL.com. Or maybe just google it.

Damn, I've tried everything I could. I finally found one good site to find the team-vs-team records.

The problem is, the link to the team-vs-team record is not responding. Damn it.

heres the info in bullted form:
- A hard salary cap between $21 million minimum and $39 million maximum. All player costs are included in that figure.
- An immediate 24% salary rollback on existing player contracts and qualifying offers.
- UFA age will drop to 27 over the next four years. UFA age rate will be: 31 in 2005, 29 in 2006, 28 in 2007. In 2008, it's 27 or seven years of NHL tenure.
- Salaries are limited to 54% of the league revenues.
- A weighted lottery to determine draft order. Each team starts with 3 balls, the minimum amount of balls a team can have for the lottery is 1.* A team loses one ball for each season they made the playoffs in the past three seasons with a two ball maximum.* Buffalo have missed the playoffs for each of the past three seasons therefore they do not lose a ball. Each team that had the first overall draft pick over the past four drafts loses a ball. Florida loses two for the 2002 and 2003 drafts, Washington loses one for the 2004 draft and Atlanta loses one for the 2001 draft. There are a total of 48 balls that will go into the lottery.* The lottery will determine the first round selections for picks 1-30.* The selection order will then flip flop for each successive round.* So the team that picks 1st overall will pick last in the 2nd round, 1st in the 3rd round, last in the 4th round, 1st in the 5th round, last in the 6th round, 1st in the 7th round, last in the 8th round and 1st in the 9th round.), click the link for the percentages...

Deal expected to be officially revealed on July 21st, the draft lottery will be held that day. A new logo and rules changes are also expected to be announced.
- restrictive entry level contracts and bonuses (rumored to be $850,000)
- a buyout mechanism so teams can clear salaries

Hockey's popularity has really been dieing due to all of this. Even before the lockout, the ratings were really low from what I understand.

so hockey is officialy back and let the insanity begin!
If you believe the rumours, Scott Niedermayer, Eric Lindros, and Paul Kariya will be donning the blue and white this season.
Let the feeding frenzy begin.
The NHL has never really had a free agent market like the one that's about to be made available to its 30 teams. And the list of free agents doesn't include the buyout bargains which will make the marketplace all the more interesting.
Last Saturday began the period when NHL teams could buy out players' existing contracts at two-thirds of their value (after the 24-percent rollback). Teams who complete buyouts by Friday's 5 p.m. deadline won't be charged those salaries against the salary cap for next season.
Every team has projected out every NHL team's roster and what their payrolls would be if they signed all their free agents. Now the teams will sit back and sees who does what.
"I'm looking forward to the insanity of it," New York Islanders GM Mike Milbury is quoted as saying in New York papers. "That's part of the fun of it. It should, I hope, create a lot of speculation and rumour and innuendo and, in the end, activity. It should create a lot of talking and interest in local markets. People talking hockey again is a good thing."
He's right about the insanity part of the equation.
The rumor mill is definitely alive and well and some say almost running out of control.
A cursory look on the internet at newspapers in NHL cities makes for a lot of great speculation.
Take Scott Niedermayer, for example. He's the 2004 Norris Trophy winner as the NHL's top defenceman and he's the best free agent on the market. The New Jersey Devils want to re-sign him but according to various reports, he's going to Philadelphia, Dallas, Toronto, Los Angeles and Detroit. That's what you call a feeding frenzy.
Some reports have Eric Lindros signed, sealed and delivered to the Toronto Maple Leafs, and there are suggestions he will be reunited with John LeClair, who was cast off by the Philadelphia Flyers last weekend. But think about it. Why would the Maple Leafs want a player with a rich history of concussion problems and a player with a wonky back, both of whom are in the autumn of their careers?
There are also reports that Lindros will end up in Boston, with LeClair. In other words, get used to seeing the former Legion of Doom linemates hooked up in every rumor.
How about Gary Roberts as an Ottawa Senator with Joe Nieuwendyk? Or Roberts a member of the Minnesota Wild? Or Nieuwendyk in Nashville."
Paul Kariya? He's going to Toronto, Philadelphia, Detroit, San Jose, . . . you get the idea.
All more feeding frenzy material.
All you have to do is pick a name of an older free agent out of a hat and it's not hard to suggest he would work with this team or that team or whatever.
Here's betting that between 25 and 40 players will be bought out by their respective teams by Friday's deadline and they'll all find a job but at a vastly reduced rate, as will a vast majority of the free agents who become available next week.
What you have to remember is that teams will want to leave some wiggle room in their cap structure to allow for deals later in the season. The cap is $39 million but it's expected that teams will come in around $36.5 million to play it safe.
One thing is certain: Get used to hearing or reading about someone telling someone that this guy or that guy is going to end up in such a place.
Hockey is definitely back when the rumor mill is churning things up.
As Milbury said; "I'm looking forward to the insanity of it
Ok this is getting rediculous. The Leafs are so over cap they will in effect have to sell off most of their current team and then get all these big names at minimum salary.
It won't happen they need to keep a core of youth there too. Boston, Chicago have room to be big spenders. All these guys want to live back near home which means Ontario. I don't see Toronto having the room.
I can't wait until these guys start having to go to Nashville, Florida, and Edmonton.
That's what this system was designed to do in the first place

Atleast Sakic will be back donning the uniforms of my beloved Avalanche.
I just hope they bring back Tanguay and Hejduk.
