The self-esteem of RSN is in the hands of Derek Lowe. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Even though he got a no-decision in his last start, Lowe pitched a great game. If Manny didn't drop that pop fly, it would have been game-over and Foulke would've capped Lowe's 8 inning shutout of the Dodgers, who aren't a bunch of slouches. Like Petey, Lowe just needed some mechanics worked out and Dave Wallace did a nice job of taking care of him. Lowe will be fine tonight...it is really up to the RED SOX OFFENSE!!

JMDurron

I fear for Lowe because he relies on a breaking pitch, and breaking pitches don't break as well at Coors as they do elsewhere. At least his confidence should be up going into this game, and Pokey should be behind him to help with that as well.

Just a bit of info - Lowe is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA in 2 starts in June. That's not much to judge him on, but maybe he's settling down.

WHOA! Did you know the sox have hit a double in 40 straight games? That's the longest active streak in the MLB right now.

Oh Jesus. I can't believe that we are going to be swept by the Rockies.

THE F'IN ROCKIES!!!!!

I'm expecting the worst, honestly. I now only expect to win when Pedro or Schilling are on the hill. That's 2 out of every 5 games... may be even fewer if Schilling goes out. That's how bad it is right now.

I also expect Bonds to rip us apart this weekend and Schmidt to throw a shutout on Sunday.

I dont know. I bet Lowe will pitch better than Schilling did yesterday. He's a sinkerballer, so he's got that working for him. He also has two very good starts under his belt (in a row, mind you). If he can get us a win, I bet a lot of the "WE'RE DOOMED!" attitude will go away. But if he implodes.... then all hell will break loose.

I predict this game will be all-or-nothing for Lowe. They say his game is "on" when he's getting a lot of grounders (good in Coors), and if he's giving up flyballs, bad news.

Some groundball pitchers do well in Coors (Tom Glavine)
Some don't do so well (Mike Hampton)

Coors is a mystery. I had nightmares (not literally) about the Sox in that ballpark (because of it's reputation), and I will be relieved that they won't have to play there again this season.

looks like there is great potential for a rain delay. major storm heading towards denver, although it doesn't look like it should last too long.

Just what we need, extra time for Lowe to sit around getting stressed out. Someone get the poor man some Prozac!

If he does what he is supposed to do and keeps the ball down, he should be okay. The defense behind him looks good with Pokey back in there. (Not sure how Belhorn is at third - he's in instead of Youks). But if Lowe is even the slightest bit off his game, it has potential to get really ugly.

It's only June... It's only June...

all we need to do is make it through 5...it appears to be raining in Denver, according to dopplar, but game is still going on per MLB Gameday. Bottom 3, still 2-0 Sox...

i am liking this concept of trot in the lineup. 4 hits in 1 and a half games do far, thats exactly what we need

yes, as i said before, its an oxymoron

whew, that was a little close for comfort, 2nd and 3rd and lowe gets out of it. i am starting to regain confidence, but im still not going back on the bandwagon

Why, just as I start to hate him, does he have to turn it around? Because he wants us to hate Schilling and Pedro for not being as good as he is?

Well, whatever. I'm glad that he didnt give up 2 in the first, as is customary, and I'm glad they havent scored yet. :D Keep it up D-Lowe.

Nomar - 2-for-3
Nixon - 2-for-3
Lowe - 6IP, 0 ER on 83 pitches.

Good signs.

Nomar raised his average to .304 in one game, lol. It's definitely a good thing to see him hitting again.

And how about Ortiz with that HR?

Correction: Nomar is 3-4, with a triple. Nice to see the former AL triple champion back to his old routine again.

Ok, we all agree Lowe is a headcase. But with headcases, they go through good and bad spells - almost like the knuckleball.. I knew this would happen for Lowe. It was better to have him work his problems out on the mound instead of replacing him with (who?) from the minors.

One more inning for Lowe, then PH for him with Youkilis. Bring in the bullpen arm of your choice to finish it off.

I'd say Embree, since he's been struggling lately, and this game seems to be the game of turn-arounds, so why not?

This defense makes my brain hurt.

3B - Bellhorn
SS - Pokey
2B - Crespo
1B - McCarty

LF - Millar

WTF?!? Crespo has no business on the team, nevermind the infield. Move Bellhorn to 2B, Youk at 3B, and swap Millar and McCarty. Millar has no business in a ML outfield position.

Millar and McCarty are both pretty bad in LF, and McCarty is much better than Millar at 1b, so you come to the logical conclusion that it sould be Millar and LF and McCarty at 1B. And once again, Crespo is on this team because he plays multiple positions and he was playing infield so you don't have to burn Nomar and give him the last 2 innings a a blowout game off. And why are we even having this conversation? It was 11-0 so who cares what the defensive positioning is?

Anyways, great moral win for the team and for Derek. Ortiz and Pokey seemed to really shine today, along with Trot. Let's sweep San Fran!

Randy Johnson didn't back down either. Although he didn't strike him out, he hit him in the chest with a 96 mph fastball.

I don't know about Pedro, but I'm scared to death of Bonds. He can't let him ruin this nice little run. He needs to find a way to get him out.

Anyone remember the Bonds/Gagne match up in April? Bonds hooked a 100 mph fastball just foul into McCovey's cove and on the next pitch he smashed one at 101 mph straight to dead center. :o

This was certainly an improvement! Lowe has looked like his old (2002?) self in his last two games. And Trot and Nomar seem to be getting into mid-season form already. Hopefully this will give them a little boost of confidence heading into San Fran.
