The sinkerballer has been on a roll of late, bringing a 14-inning scoreless streak into this one. In fact, Lowe has gone 18 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run. Lowe is 3-1 in his last five starts.
I think we jumped the gun on Lowe. We'll see tonight, we NEED this series.

Couldn't agree with you more ACL, The Sox need to turn around their mediocre play, and they need to do it a month ago.
There will be very tough competition for the playoffs in the AL this year, and playing .500 baseball isn't going to get them there.
Let's hope Lowe found the key, and that last night's offensive outburst is a sign of things to come!

Some things to consider about tonight's game:
Derek Lowe has an 0.95 in 3 June starts.
Unlike last year, Lowe has struggled in Fenway this year (although he struggled EVERYwhere through May)
In 6 starts, he's 2-3 with a 6.48 ERA.
Carlos Silva is also pitching well in June (2-1 with a 3.14 ERA) but has struggled on the road this season:
in 7 starts, he's 3-3 with a 5.08 ERA.
If these pitchers continue JUNE success, it should be a good, low-scoring game. However, both of these pitchers have the potential to give up a bunch of runs.

Tek33rules - where do you get your stats from? Carlos Silva has a 7-4 record with a 4.13 ERA.

I'm going to the game tonight (good seats too!), and I'm actually excited to see Lowe pitch this time around, because, as you said bueno, he has a .95 ERA in June so far. :D
Also, it'll be the first game that I get to see Nomar in person. I went against the Dodgers, but he wasn't in the lineup. Exciting stuff all around.

lowe has pitched well lately, but im still not confident in him. i hope he can pitch well, but Minnys offense has hit well this season. as long as we dont get any homers robbed by thier amazing outfield, lowe pitches well, and we are winning after the 6th (rincon, romero, and nathan have pitched superb), we should win this one
i predict a 6-4 sox win, all the runs scored early, the pitchers settle down, and the bullpens will take the show

Well... CONGRATULATIONS.
I was hoping for a summer of shimmering plays at second and someone to keep the errors in check, but NOOOOOOO. Reese may be out for a couple of months - at least it seems for a while, and we now have Bellhorn as our regular second baseman. Woohoo.
Just do me a favor? Count how many times you say to yourself during Reese's possible trip to the DL, "Reese woulda gotten that one" or "Reese coulda turned that play" or "Reese wouldn't have made that baserunning error" or hell, "Reese wouldn't have made that error".........

And to top it all off, Bellhorn mocks me! (4-1 Min)

i would never say stuff like that, bellhorn has been one of our more productive hitters. defense should be the least of our worries. bellhorn has played very well and deserves to start. remember this will also give youkilis more laying time
why do you hate bellhorn so much? just because he isnt as good at defense as pokey?

You mean like those double plays in the 1st that weren't turned? Let me guess...those were impossible, because Pokey's prettier to watch in the field? And the one that wasn't turned in the 5th was Bellhorn's fault, right?
Bellhorn's been mocking you most of the season, but you haven't noticed.
Although I do enjoy watching other teams playing at 2B and saying "Pokey would have had that" on every ball hit to that side of the field, just to be mocking. :D We'll miss his defense a bit, but not as much as some people would like to think. We'll miss the excitement more than the actual performance. We won't miss his bat in the slightest, as long as Youk can keep around .275 until Mueller returns.
You hate to see anyone get injured, but at least this injury is at the one position where the team can absorb it without any severe damage.

"Reese coulda turned that play" - Bellhorn just hit a runner with a throw.

Anybody else miss McCarty on that play? He backs up and gets the ball, or steps to the right side of the runner to keep the ball from bouncing away. Brilliant job by Millar there. Bellhorn should have held onto it, or thrown it towards the infield side of the bag.

now RSR, would you miss bellhorns homerun tonight? would you miss his offense? because without that it would only be 4-1 not 4-2

I'm actually surprised that Bellhorn doesn't see more 2-strike breaking balls. They seem to fool him fairly often, while he sits and waits on nice fastballs, and avoids the junk ones.
Of course, this is where the Pokey people whine about Ks, while ignoring walks, pitches seen, HRs, doubles, runs scored, RBI...

Oh well, it was fun to be there. I really thought that we'd come back after Nomar got that double, but oh well.

Let's just be thankful that Baltimore brought their pitching staff to the ballpark today.

They usually bring their bats, though. And they were up against Lieber. But the pitching was a pleasant miracle.

Geeeez,
Last nights game was SOOOO frustrating.... Too many double plays in key situations!
Also frustrating that the Yankees lost and the Red Sox couldn't pick up ground....

Maybe it was just magnified since I was at the game, but there were 4 times where the sox could have/ should have turned a double play but failed to do so. Does anyone remember if this resulted in any runs for the Twins?
