View Full Version : Good-bye Red Sox Nation
ACL BoSox

We have been put through enough torture these past few days, and after a loss like that, there's no viable way the sox can recover. 18 years ago we were 1 strike away from a world series, and we blew it. Last year we were one reliever away from beating the Yanks in the ALCS. Tonight, on top of it all, the Sox manage to blow the biggest momentum game of the year.
All I can say is, for years I have been tortured and taunted by the Red Sox. "This is the year" I would say, sadly I have this to say. I had never been a believer in the curse until tonight, the Sox lose EVERY big game. Curt Schilling is the man but he cannot pitch every night.
Screw the sox, go Brewers!

Hey, hey! Nice to see another NetSporter over here, even if he's not a true-blooded Sox fan.

:)
But still, ACL BoSox, have faith man, dont cheer for the BrewCrew first, cheer them second, Sox first..
Like Zenny said, im not a fullblooded Sox fan, but (he didnt say this) I have faith in the sox..
Dont leave the sox nation because the sox got swept by the .. oh how do I put this? Oh yes..team with the big wallet..
Think about this: They got beat by 2 Underdogs in the WS in the past couple of years, so we can laugh at them :)

1986 is burned into my skull. I'm too young for '78 or '75, thank God.

Folks - This is essentially the same team that trashed the Yankees just 3 months ago. There are problems - signficant ones that I have posted on before - but all is not lost. To be a Red Sox fan is to be a real fan, to understand the ebbs and flows of arbitrariness of a spite-filled God, that gives you hope one moment, and takes it away the next. Yes, now the race looks to the Wild Card. The starting and relief pitching is still good, the slugging (except, I know, in situations when it counts) is solid. The talent is there. But a shake-up is needed. Francona's days are numbered. This team plays like it is not afraid of losing right now, and that is a management problem.
Keep the faith!

There's something about last night's game that restored my hope in this club. I feel about as well as a Sox fan could feel after being swept by the Yankees. Will the Sox take the AL East this year? probably not. Do they have a chance for the wild card? Absolutely.
With Petey, and Schill, this team ALWAYS has a chance in a short series. So, keep the faith, root on the Sox, and keep in mind:
Nomar, Trot, Mueller, Williamson were all out of this game, and the Sox still battled right to the end.
If they can capture the Wild Card, anything's possible.

els- after reading your post I cant help but feel better.
No matter what being a redsox fan is better than being a yankee fan. I dont care (well I do really) if never beat them again, the sox will always be better.
I am hoping that last night knocks these guys in the ass and someone emerges as a leader to lead them b ack into the hunt. Manny is playing out of this world and so are some other guys. Millar needs to be on the bench forever, bellhorn is awful....Tek needs to wake up..I dont think he has ever looked that lost at the plate.
Onward to atlanta. The yankees will always suck and so do their fans.
Nomar is a bitch.

I can't believe it. I'm usually the negative one, but today (despite the loss) I feel fine about this team.
Things need to be put into perspective:
This team has NEVER been 100% this year. Nomar hasn't played to the best of his ability, neither has Nixon. Mueller's been gone over a month. Tek's struggling. Millar's struggling.
I don't have a lot of faith in Millar (sorry) but I believe Tek and Nomar WILL play better.
Mueller's a quality ballplayer and I'm thrilled he's coming back to the team soon.
They're 8.5 back of the Yankees and that sucks. They're 2 back of Oakland for the Wild card, and THAT sucks.
I expect better things from this team in July.
Besides if I were a Yankee fan I'd have to tie myself up and throw me in a closet for being such a jackass.....
Hey, Netsports here. :)
Don't lose faith, you aren't even half-way through the season.

Yea, we only need to be 100% when the playoffs come around.

Not to be repetitive, but at some point it will all come together for the Sox. Last night I liked some certain aspects of the game. I thought Leskanic pitched quite well. He got out of that ugly jam with the leadoff triple with strikeouts against two quality hitters. The only time he was hit off of was when he kept the ball high. I thought he pitched well, and if Millar could move his fat arse in right, maybe he would have gotten the win instead of the loss. McCarty is a great fielder at first and made a great scoop on Bellhorn's shit throw with the bases loaded. McCarty also hit the ball fairly well. I know he only had one hit, but he hit two others a pretty long way. I say you play him more often. Pedro looked pretty good. Youk made some nice plays at third and was solid at the plate (it will be sad for me to see him replaced by Mueller). And Manny of course almost saved the day. There were three big mistakes I think were made last night, and both fall on Francona's head:
1) Pinch running for Ortiz at third. Ortiz was at DH not 1B, there was no reason to pinch run for him. I know he's not exactly a speed demon, but in general pinch running for someone at third gives you little if any advantage. Second base is different because a gapper that doesn't reach the wall could result in a run. However, at third no matter who is running the ball has to be hit a certain distance for the runner to score, and that distance is almost the same for any runner.
Bad result: Next time Nixon had to pinch hit in what would have been Ortiz' spot. I like Nixon too, but I would have liked Ortiz up there with the bases loaded.
2) There's another reason Nixon shouldn't have been up there, he should have batted the inning before. For almost the entire extra session, Nixon sat with a bat in his hands. What happens? Millar (MILLAR!!!) gets up with the bases loaded instead of Nixon. What happens? No runs. So instead of putting Nixon in, who might actually get a hit, we blow another bases loaded opportunity.
3) Mistake three is that Francona did not put Kapler in right. What the hell? You're in extra innings were every base matters and you leave the second slowest guy on the team in a crucial fielding position?! Francona should have pinched for Millar (with Nixon) and then Kapler could have taken his spot in right and Nixon could have been switched to DH. Instead, Nixon doesn't PH until later, unfortunately screws up, but Millar is STILL PLAYING. I don't like him playing when we're up by 10 and we have him in when every run a potential final out for a Kapler turns into a game tying double and inevitably the game winning run.
NICE JOB MILLAR AND FRANCONA, HOPE YOUR HAPPY WITH EACH OTHER.

When Kevin Millar is playing RF for the Sox AT ALL, this shows a lack of depth that needs to be corrected. It would be one thing if he hit like Ortiz or Manny....but he doesn't.
I agree Kapler should have been in there.
Leskanic was throwing one of the best breaking balls I have ever seen against Bernie Williams.

I'm glad as hell that I couldn't see last nights game. That said, I'll be a Red Sox fan until I die, even if they lose in game 7 of every ALCS from now until eternity. You'll be back man, and you know it. :D
