Indians get minor league OF Franklin Gutierrez and a PTBNL. Good move for DePodesta but won't move them out of fourth.

this is a big acquisition for the dodgers, who have found an erratic but talented hitter to complement their pitcing staff. look for a breakout season by bradley

Not only is this a big acquisition for the Dodgers, it's huge for the Indians too. They get rid of someone they wanted to and get in return the best hitting Dodgers' prospect in Gutierrez. But it's not like the Tribe are short on young outfielders (Gerut, Escobar, Sizemore, Ludwick, Crisp, and now Gurtierrez).

mark shapiro knows what he is doing. damn. they are stacked prospect wise. just look at that future outfield. this will be the team to beat in 07. how did he get Travis Hafner for Einar Diaz!? Damn, let's just trade them Williamson for their AAA team.

I think the Dodgers got the better end of this deal. DePodesta traded a lesser version of Bradley, who has very weak plate discipline (which isn't an easily fixed problem), and wouldn't be able to contribute to the team this season or next for a player whose OBP was .100 points higher than his not too shabby .321 BA with developing power, a .400+ BA against lefties, great CF defense and will be able to start for the team this season. If Tracy can control his behavior, they've got a real winner here.

The PTBNL is supposed to be a good one, no word on who it is yet, but it's not to be a member of the pitching Big 3 (Jackson, Miller, Hanrahan) or Koyie Hill, their future catcher, so it's no problem for the Dodgers.

I'm still riding the Dodgers to win this division, but that all depends on how soon Edwin Jackson is recalled, if Jeff Weaver's return home does him good and the additions of Encarnacion and Bradley can bolster the offense just enough to keep them in games. I think all three things will lead the Dodgers to an '04 NL West pennant, but they don't stand a chance in the playoffs.

In the most recent issue of ESPN the magazine there was a small box on the second to last page about MB. He grew up in long beach, and they say being closer to home will help him with his temper and attitude. I seriously doubt it though.
