interesting take on things. Andy Pettitte and Chein-Ming Wang are big time groundball guys. Currently their defense is average overall combinging 2b, SS, and 3b but their 1b has been a huge issue, so getting the best defensive 1b in the game is enticing. They go on to say that Mientkiewicz handles lefties rather well as do Giambi and Matsui so that would make it easier to swallow his presence in the lineup. His .359 career OBP is something the yankees like as well.

As for Hermanson, he had a great yr in 2005 as a closer, but back problems limited his usefulness last season. The yankees are pouring over his medicals to see if he should be offered a contract. He says that he feels fine and back to normal after rest and rehab. If he is healthy, then he could be a big addition to an already good bullpen.

The boo-birds will definitely be out for Mienky if he wears pinstripes. Look for Callagahn & "the Big O" to repeatedly talk about that whole ball issue leading up to the first Sox/Yanks game at Fenway Park this season if he sign

I think it would be a good peripheral move. They certainly have enough power. They have enough offense. Adding a good D 1b with solid OBP skills would be useful.

Maybe he'll steal a few of Jeter's gloves to sell them on EBay.

I'd love to see the Sox get Hermanson on a contract based on incentives. He was okay as a closer.

Wasn't he hurt for a good amount of time with us?

Yeah, wasn't he a starter at that point too?

He did have a decnent '05 with the White Sox, though.

and a decent stint before that in SF. The guy can be a solid reliever if he is healthy and he has had back problems for the past 3 yrs at least.

Personally, I think you can stick a fork in Dustin Hermanson. He's done. His back was so bad he couldn't even bend over to pick up his daughter.

Maybe he can't bend over because he's got a fork in his back?

:dunno:

We don't need a guy who has a giid year every 3 or 4 years, because when he goes down he's usually done for the season.

if healthy he is worth something. That is why the yanks are pouring over his injury reports.

It's a risk/reward issue with Hermanson. IMO, the risk (his back) outweighs the reward.

Whats the risk if you sign him to a minor league deal?

agreed. If we were talking gagne money, then no fucking way. If it is a small base (1mil) with tons of incentives, I'd be ok with that.

doug's defense is stellar, and I think he actualy hit .300 a few years ago for the Twins. That said, if he's still hitting near Mendoza line, I don't see why we cant just stick with Philips
