No doubt in my mind now. Sheff will be done a great injustice if he does not get it.

is sheffield like your mother or something? telling you to post this BS? i can name many players that should have it before him, and i have before. manny, ortiz, vlad, i would even stretch it as to say that mark texiera would be a better choice than him

schillingouttheks
08-24-2004, 12:38 PM
and i will add my part in...yankees win championships without sheff or arod...who gives a shit...hes a damn yankee. and pain and love for the game doesnt mean jack shit...vlad loves the game just as much...so does ortiz...so does manny. i kno manny took out not because of huge issues, but thats not the point.

sheff doesnt CARRY the team. manny and ortiz do carry the team and have great numbers.

even more so, vlad.

How many different threads now has empire declared Sheffield the sure-fire AL MVP?

Wasn't there a thread dedicated to discussing the AL MVP? Why start a new one?

Anyway, as I stated in the original thread, Vladimir Guerrero is my pick for AL MVP.

How can Sheffield be MVP? He's not even the most valuable player on his team, let alone in the league.

Sheffield provides very little in the field, can't run the bases anymore, and basically swings for the fences with every swing. Players on the Yankees that I deem more valuable than Sheff:

Alex Rodriguez
Mariano Rivera
Javier Vazquez
Hideki Matsui
Derek Jeter
Jorge Posada

OK, so pitchers don't win MVP awards. That still leaves 4 position players on the Yankees above Sheff on the MVP list. No way he wins the award.

Excluding the first 5 weeks of the season, sheff has been the most comsistant player in this lineup. I think he really has carried the team. If they didn't have sheff, the yankees would be probably 3 or 4 games behind the red sox. You can make the same arguement for vlad, consistant, carries the team, but I give sheff the edge just because he's hurt. The whole yankee lineup has been somewhat of a dissapointment excluding matsui and sheff. A rod, jeter, posada bernie all have had ups and downs.

Your argument for Sheff over Vlad is that Sheff is hurt? This somehow makes him MVP?

Sorry, don't buy it. Sheff is a one-dimensional player. He can't steal bases anymore. He can't play defense. He hammers the ball, but that's about it.

The Yankees would be worse off without Sheff, but still a very solid playoff contender.

I'll give you the credit that Sheff has been the most consistent hitter in the Yankee lineup of late, but I just can't see Sheff winning it over the likes of Ivan Rodriguez or Vladimir Guerrero.

Did you all realize that Sheff has hit 16 homers since the break? Twice as many as the next Yankee (A-Rod).

empirestrikesback26
08-24-2004, 03:25 PM
I can see over I rod, but vlad, I'm not sure. I think it should be sheff but vlad will get it.

We're going to have to agree to disagree on this one. I don't see Sheff as an MVP worthy player.

empirestrikesback26
08-24-2004, 04:10 PM
Well maybe not bet tell me you see him more worthy that texiara and all those yankees you posted.

CrespoBlows

Sheff isn't an MVP he isn't carrying his team, no Yankee should be an MVP, it's expected for them to do what their doing. I think Ramirez should be the MVP because the Sox can't win without this guy he's that good.

empirestrikesback26
08-24-2004, 05:22 PM
neither of them, you can still be good without one, both not at all, but 1 can be gone you can still do well.

CrespoBlows
08-24-2004, 05:30 PM
No, we wouldn't be, where to we replace 33 HR's? and 100 RBI's we can't. Nixon isn't there so he can't help. Kapler in Left and Millar in right. Sheffield can get hurt and well I see what your saying. If Sheff goes out, who's plays right field? Lofton?! Sheff can be considered one, but isn't one. I'm saying Vlad Guerrerro right now, he's carrying the Angels.

schillingouttheks
08-24-2004, 06:15 PM
the bottom line is empire, if your trying to convince us, red sox fans especially, we are not EVER going to believe that sheff will win this mvp...so stop trying and stop declaring this in so many threads.

empirestrikesback26
08-24-2004, 07:47 PM
i'm mostly trying to convince you it's not going to be manny or ortiz.

I don't think will see a Yankee win an MVP espically after what that writer did to Pedro in 2001 CY Young Race. How can you leave Pedro off your ballot, the same reason any Boston writer does to Sheff.

Vlad will get it. Without him the angels are where they were last year.

yea, u seem to keep switching who should get the mvp. sheff a lot and then u change to vlad and go right back to sheff

empirestrikesback26

i gave up in trying to get you guys to think its sheff basically. My final look on it, vlad will get it, but i think sheff deserves it more.

Actually I agree with Empire I think Sheff should get it I watch the Yankee games and they would be NO WHERE with out hm I mean literally we would be in front of the Yankees right now if you take him out of the picture.

schillingouttheks
08-25-2004, 11:43 PM
no they wouldnt.

what do u call it last year?
THEY DIDNT HAVE SHEFF OR AROD YET THEY STILL WON THE ALCS.

08-26-2004, 03:04 AM
Pudge or Vlad will be getting it

empirestrikesback26
08-26-2004, 03:53 PM
Do we have giambi? He was a major part of the success last year. A Rod(I wanted to say fraud, but I won't)is not helping at all. Just count him an out any time there is a RISP. It's so frustrating.

schillingouttheks
08-26-2004, 04:56 PM
he wouldve been better off in boston.

he wouldnt have gotten smacked in the mouth by tek

For MVP?

CrespoBlows
08-27-2004, 02:43 PM
yeah, he's carrying Oakland's offense, and his stats are pretty good. I'm not saying he's going to win, but it's a chance.

empirestrikesback26
08-27-2004, 02:44 PM
He has about as good a chance as travis hafner, therefore no chance.

CrespoBlows
08-27-2004, 02:45 PM
you really don't think he's got a chance? He's going to hit 30 HR's with a .320 average.

schillingouttheks
08-27-2004, 05:20 PM
i agree that he could be a candidate, but he wont win going up against the likes of manny, ortiz, vlad, pudge. i would however, not being biased, give it to him over sheff.

durazo has something to carry, sheff does not. and now im going to get a big argument of how sheff plays when hes hurt...so intrigue me, empire.

thank you for proving my point. They would only win 70 games without him.

schillingouttheks
08-28-2004, 03:33 PM
70+ games is still a possibility of under 500, so it doesnt speak much...that can prove that they would almost be as bad as the devil rays or tigers, which in no way shape or form would be remotely possible. the yankees would still be fine without him. but the fact is, we cant go by what would have happened, this is what IS happening. if sheff is having a good year, fine. but there are plenty other people than sheff who deserve it. people like manny, vlad, pudge and ortizzle, who are actually carrying a team.

ok, but i dont think hes going anywhere, and we need to make sure of that.

good or bad, the man is pedro martinez and will always help a team. thats all that matters.
