i have to agree with empire on this one. matsui has a decent bat and has had nothing more ever noticed about him, and they know hes a poor defensive OF. i dont think hes overrated at all.

Sox have 5 hitters over .298, Yankees have none. I dunno, it's close.

Nah about it being close, because I don't think it is. What the yanks lose in average they make up for HRs, deffinetly more inporatant. Now if you re like sheff thats the best, average and HR power.

having HRs doesnt mean shit, it just states that u either get out, or u hit a HR.

and believe me, getting runs by HRs early is the worst possible way because you have no room for mechanics on the base paths.

I don't call 18 runs being scored overrated, but that's just me. ;)

One isolated incident means nothing. I'm not saying that I necessarily disagree with your point of view (I think the yankees have a better lineup, to tell you the truth), but I'm just pointing out that relying on what circumstance doesn't work in arguments.

The yankees need to work on small ball. Thats why loften is good guy to have on the club.

If you are saying all they can do is hit HR's Empire then they won't e able ot win in the post season. When you og to the postseason all you do is face tough pitching a big slugging team can't go deep into the playoffs.

Hey guys.

The link above is my version of a comparative offensive analysis between the Yankees and Red Sox.

Please read and comment (here)

I've been thinking about doing similar writeups comparing the rotations, bullpens, benches, etc (of these two teams). Would people here care to read them? (if so, I'll try to write them up within the next few days)

great work els,

i look forward to your next article? :)

great read, and nice stats to look at. it really does show that the mighty yankees arent the yankees like popular demand.

From a yankee fan perspective:
catcher-even
1B-close,yankees
2b-red sox
3b-yankees
SS-yankees
LF-red sox
CF-red sox
RF-yankees
DH-red sox

Totals-Yankees-4,sox-4

Because the yanks lead the league in homeruns, I give the edgeto the yanks.

empire,
for the most part I agree with you. I just think that Varitek's higher slugging percentage, batting average give him the slight edge.

However, at least we can agree that it's a lot closer than most people realize, considering people have been talking about the dangerous Yankee lineup. On any given night, the Red Sox lineup could be equally as dangerous.
