Sounds like he is ready. He is eligible to return in one week and should be ready and back in the swing of things prior to the sox playing in the Bronx. But he will miss the upcoming series in the Fen.

Why was he on the DL?

In all seriousness, if the Yankees kept him on the roster instead of DL'ing him, and did not send down one of their pitchers, they would have only had three outfielders (Melky, Damon, and Abreu, not including Cairo).
