So what time is the fight itself on? I know PPV started at 9, but I'm talking about THE fight.

They were saying about 2 hours from now, I think.

I think it's a mistake hanging the future of boxing on this fight... I think Mayweather wins somewhat easily. Oscar has had problems facing speed, which is why Shane Mosley beat him twice, and none are faster than Mayweather. Pretty Boy's the best in the world right now.

According to ESPN News, De La Hoya's already arrived at the arena, Mayweather hasn't yet.

I'm thinking of heading over to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the fight, but anybody who'd be interested in going and watching the fight is working, so I'm hoping my roommate is able to get out of work here soon.

I'm watching some boxing from the MGM Grand, but I'm not sure if it's the De La Hoya/Mayweather PPV that I'm watching. Does anybody know the undercard?

Alright, cancel the Buffalo Wild Wings idea, people are waiting outside of there in wind and rain. I got this computer broadcast thing to work, though.

ESPN just showed a graphic and they had this scoring:

Round 1 - De la Hoya (10-9)
Round 2 - De la Hoya (10-9)
Round 3 - Mayweather (10-9)

Seems like a good fight so far...I gotta think the longer the fight goes on the more Mayweather's speed is an advantage.

edit - ESPN gave Round 4 to Mayweather, 10-9.

5 - Mayweather

I think there were two definites for either side, one toss up, 3-2 one way or the other.

It's weird...Sportscenter had De la Hoya winning Round 1, but espn.com has Mayweather.

Mayweather 8.

I think 8 goes to DLH, 9 to FM, but either could go either way. DLH is pushing the action, FM is countering, but nobody is really hurting the other guy.

Is the fight really as close as ESPN thinks?

It's Mayweather

Yeah, Mayweather won.

Reactions? Did the fight "save" boxing?

Yeah, Mayweather won.

Reactions? Did the fight "save" boxing?

I laid down my $54.95 to watch the fight, and I wasn't disappointed. I doubt it "saved" boxing, because the casual fan (which the arena was packed with) was looking for a TKO.

I was disappointed that someone actually picked De La Hoya to win the fight. Arguably, he could have won five rounds AT BEST. He threw a ton of punches, but he really didn't hit with any. His body punches were ineffective at best. He did throw a great left jab, but he went away from it late. He wasn't going to land his left hook, but he kept trying for it.

Mayweather is so freaking fast, I can see why no one has been able to knock him out. Any other boxer would have got hit by at least 10% of the missed punches by De La Hoya, which would have won him the fight.

I had it scored Mayweather 8-4.

Jim Lampley is a tool, BTW.

EDIT* Don't feel sorry for De La Hoya, aside for taking in that massive purse for getting his ass kicked by Mayweather, he gets to go home to that absolute bombshell. Holy shit, un-freaking incredible.

Way to put it, Crespo. It was a great fight... close throughout. I was suprised that one official had De La Hoya winning. He fought a better fight than I had expected, though. De Lay Hoya looked pretty from a distance but a lot of this big shots didn't land. To boxing fans, it was a great, great fight. But the fans that don't really follow would be disappointed that nobody hit the canvas.

Mayweather's great -- amazing how quick he is. I'd lay down the money if there was ever a rematch, which I'm not counting on.

115-113 De La Hoya
116-112 Mayweather
115-113 Mayweather

Mayweather threw less punches, and might've connected on more. I love how Mayweather came out wearing red and green and a sombrero, too.

How the fuck did you get even money on Mayweather?

That's what I'm wondering.

Anyways... the fight wasn't as close as it looked according to the stats... I'm not sure how accurate they are, though...

Ringside punching stats favored Mayweather heavily, crediting him with landing 207 of 481 punches to 122 of 587 for De La Hoya. Mayweather also landed more power punches than De La Hoya, outscoring him 138-82.

Almost 100 more punches connected in 100 less throws... amazing. No wonder Mayweather had a "What the fuck?!" type of look on his face when they announced that the first judge had DLH winning.

Teddy Atlas on ESPN:

"It may have been a close fight, but you knew who won."

Made a bet with a friend of mine. He's a huge De La Hoya fan so I decided to piss him off and draw him into a bet. He isn't too happy right now.

That Teddy Atlas quote says it perfectly, Kilo.

Listening to people on the radio, and people talking at a party I went to last night, I think backs Crespo's point up that that fight didn't "save boxing". It simply wasn't the type of fight to do it. Unfortunately, I also hear a lot of people doubting Mayweather's abilities because he was on the defensive, which was more or less his gameplan going into the fight. Going into it I thought that the only way Mayweather could lose that fight is if he tried to go toe to toe with De La Hoya. I think a rematch would help the sport a lot, though -- might as well use De La Hoya's popularity contrasted with Mayweather being a great 'bad guy' while you can. Unfortunately, I do believe Mayweather when he says he's done.

I had Mayweather all the way. I almost flipped the shit when I heard one of the refs scored in De La Hoya's favor.

Did De La Hoya really think he could have won? I knew it was over when I saw how freaking fast Mayweather was. I mean, DLH lost to Shane Mosley because of his speed....what makes him think he'll keep up with Mayweather?
