View Full Version : Melky getting the hang of the bigs

I know most people think Melky Cabrera is some sort of 4th OFer type crappy player. And I can see how they can come to that conclusion. But at 22, the switch hitting CFer is finally showing that he truly belongs. After an abysmal start to the season in April, Melky is actually hitting .303 since May 1st with an .820+OPS. He's actually playing very well and could be on his way to having his second consecutive strong season at 22 yrs of age.

OK, despite the fact that he may pile up more than his share of K's, and from time to time in the same game, that doesnt take away from the fact that he's come a long way since allowing that Inside the Park HR back in '05. He's had a lot of doubters, particularily on this board, but forget about all that. It's no secret here how much of a Melky fan and supporter I am, and with good reason.

All things considered, he's gotten off to a pretty nice start for what I hope turns out to be a long, productive big-league career.

He has the average up to about .280 again as a 22/23 yr old. His future is in having a high BA. Unfortunately, I dont think he will ever develop the 20+ homer potential that could keep him a regular as a corner OFer and I think he might be a bit too thick to stay as a CFer.

I too hope he is a starter in the Yankee outfield for years to come.

He might be. I have a feeling he will be starting in CF in some capacity through his 20s. He's still young and he has shown some progress offensively. You cannot fault his defense either. I do like the fact that he is very tough to K. We need that in a lineup that strikes out a lot. That is what made the sombrero day so weird. He racked up 1/6th of his season total in one game.

Melky is still raking. .298 BA and a .350OBP is nothing to scoff at.

.328 and a .887OPS since April. Even better over the last 2 months as he is hitting over .340.

He's too naive to realize what you're really saying. No wonder why you guys hate me. I see right through your condescending comments.

Ahhhh, reviving mjriv's ridiculous posts. A tradition unlike any other.

Kilo, you should have seen the B.S. from him you could bring back a few years ago, before MJ "matured".

On that same Boston Herald board (RIP) there was a guy with the handle hawkstang, a self proclaimed sox fan who decided in the mid 90's that he "really liked the way the yankees played the game" so he became a yankee fan.

Oh how I miss him. Jokes were so easy to come by back then.

Melky is on pace to have the worst OPS of a yankee starting OFer in history. The lowest is by Hugh High, .636. Melky right now is at .633. Yuck

I used to make it a mission of mine to get either you or Chris to PM me about spraying your keyboard with soda due to laughter at the expense of hawkstang.

I really wish they had kept all those posts. There were more than a couple priceless ones. No offense to this board here, but there will never be another like the BH board.

me and chris were discussing this last night and in fact mr fortin was very sincere about what a gentlemen our host, yessir, was when we initially came on board here.
i think chris got nervous when there was a discussion about tera patrick and he found out he was talking to an 8th grader..
chris had a horrible week with 3 different wakes and funerals,2 of our associates bit it,both in their 40s,1girl via colon cancer at 41 the other via homicide at 46 which didnt shock anyone but dead is still dead...and then his moms boss died after a 3 yr battle with bone cancer,he was 60.
get this
the guy has a nervous breakdown and became violent,he spends 2.5 years in a state hospital and when he finally got his shit together and got back home he gets the death sentence within a month.
they gave him a year and the poor prick fought like rocky balboa for 3 , finally biting it on monday.
and we got another wake tonight with the ex commander of the club dying,at least he was in his 70s.
every day a celebration
every meal a feast
every night is saturday
none of us are promised tomorrow
sorry to drift off topic gentlemen....where were we?
oh ya
yankees suck
the poor prick dont know whether to shit whistle or wind his watch these days

Wow thats pretty awful. Give him a man hug for me. I agree about this board- its a great board (an props to yessir- good guy from all experiences), but nothing will compare to the old BH.

Jesus I sound like I am talking about Brett Favre.

I fucking hate Brett Favre.

The New York Post reports that the Yankees will demote Melky Cabrera to Triple-A and waive Richie Sexson prior to Friday's game.

According to the newspaper, Brett Gardner and Cody Ransom will be called up from Triple-A to fill their spots on the roster. Cabrera is hitting just .242/.296/.337 in 117 games and Sexson has hit .221/.321/.381 in 96 overall, including .250/.371/.393 with the Yankees.

Ouch, that's embarassing

I have nothing to say. I'm just gonna sit back, smile, and enjoy it. :D
And I'll try not to say I told you so.

Lets not forget how everybody used to shit on me and my favorite Yankee prospect, especially after his 2005 callup, and the first game of his 2006 stint. I know he hasn't done it year in and year out on a consistent basis, but what did I say??

Good comedy.
