Afternoon game today, and Brown is pitching.

i think brown pitching is key. if he pitches well, the yanks only want him going 4 innings, and that will mean they have to bring in their shaky bullpen for a majority of the game. if we can get to brown early and force the bullpen even earlier, we are in good shape today. we also have schilldawg goin, which is always a nice thing.

I cannot see Brown going out there and giving a good performance today. He hasn't faced a team in a month and now they're going to throw him in against the best offense in the AL? No way.

Schilling hasn't lost since August 9th. Brown hasn't pitched since September 3rd.

BOS: RHP Curt Schilling
# 20-6, 3.28 ERA in 2004
# 1-0, 6.17 ERA vs. NYY in 2004
# 2-2, 5.09 ERA lifetime vs. NYY

That is the only reason to be nervous.

Brown will have some control issues today, because of that hand

He broke his left, not his right, so his throwing hand was uneffected. Still, he hasn't seen real hitters in quite some time. No way is he on his game.

I read today that in his bullpen session, he needed a catcher to catch the throws back from his catcher after a pitch  .

:(, I was hoping Mirabelli would get the start, considering how well he did last night against the yankees and how poorly Tek has been doing.

This is the last Sox home game until Game 3 of the ALDS.

Red Sox magic number for WC is 3.
6 game lead over Angels and Rangers.

Seattle @ Texas 2:05 ET
Oakland @ Anaheim 8:05 ET

I really can't believe Brown is pitching. The MFY have no reason to panic, yet it seems they are. Even if he goes 4 innings it only takes one line drive back at him to ruin him for the playoffs...that's fine with me.

well at least we know we will be seeing another sox home game after today!!!

please correct me if im wrong, but if i remember correctly as far back as i can (which isnt too far back, about 10 years) i think this is the first time (assuming they make the playoffs like they should) ive ever seen them in the playoffs in back to back years.

1998/1999, both years were wild card years. But before that, the sox hadn't made the playoffs 2 years in a row since 1915/1916. Ouch.

And schilling getting it done in the first. :D

Ouch, schilling looked pissed there, slamming the ball into the dirt. It's really unusual to see him that wild. 12 straight balls is a lot. But he got out of it with 2 runs, minimal damage all things considered.

Billy Mueller - Yankee killer.

It rhymes too!

Schilling's control lapse was plain weird. He went Bobby Jones style on us.

Anyone else notice that Roberts can hit? That's a very pleasant surprise.

I say take Schill out. Not that he's doing badly...at all. He has a 1-hitter. And he hasn't even thrown that many pitches. But I'm comfortable with this lead, why make Schilling throw more than he needs to? He's making one more start before the playoffs, why not let him ease in to the playoffs instead of going in physically exhausted.

I'm with you. Then again, it looks like the Sox bullpen is trying to blow another W for Schilling.

They can't blow a lead this big.... can they?

No, apparently they cant!

tempers were flaring, it seems like this season has had the most amount of mixed emotions in games between the sox-yanks.

texas lost, so our magic number to eliminate them is now one win. the magic number is 2 for the angels if they win, 1 if they lose.

Texas still has a shot at the division though.

i know, its a weird thing. texas and anaheim can be guaranteed not to win the wild card, but can still win the west, weird....

im happier knowing that we are guaranteed a playoff spot, WC or east, i dont care what happens in the other divisions.

though id much rather have oakland or texas win it than anaheim (i want oakland to win it the most, we have played .900 ball against them).

Just goes to show how much tougher the AL east is cuz of the sox and yanks than all of the other divisions.

this is true, this is why the AL East is the best division in baseball. possibly the NL West too, dodgers/giants.

Technically the Sox magic number now is for a playoff berth, since they're not officially out of the race for the AL East.
