After 2 games, pen looks mightier than rotation (which has been used by Mariners for batting practice).
And apparently, the answer is .... Barnes...
Meh. You're right of course, but so is Notin because most people think the closer is a vital part of the pen.
In any case, this is a great thread because it's all about Topic A this early in the season. With Kimbrel and Kelly gone and no pricey additions, most of us have identified the pen as the potentially fatal weakness in the 2019 Sox roster. Lineup looks fine and probably better than last year's. Rotation ditto. But the pen?????
Cora, of course, has gone on record as saying the pen will be fine. So far it looks like our brilliant manager is right once again--even though 2 games are a ridiculously small set of data.
Two years with Barnes as the closer and then Feltman takes over.
@SoxNotes
The 8 relief pitchers on the Red Sox’ 25-man roster have combined to post a 1.86 ERA this season (8 ER/38.2 IP). Matt Barnes, Ryan Brasier, and Brandon Workman have combined to allow 0 runs in 14.1 IP while holding opponents to a .087 AVG (4-for-46) with 17 K, 2 BB, and 1 HBP.
but our pen sucks tho!!! jacksonianmarch says so.

If you want to use this season's SSS to say that your bullpen is good, then that SSS also says that your rotation is rubbish. It goes both ways. I'm sure you wouldn't agree because it's only been 11 games. But that's the point. It's only been 11 games. Based on the players in your bullpen it's not unreasonable to predict that they'll provide below average production. They've looked solid so far (except for Johnson) but let's see where they stand in another month. Same with the Yanks currently dominant rotation (2.91 total ERA).
