I'm hoping Weiland does okay for his 2nd career MLB start.

I'm excited to see Weiland again. He got absolutely klobbered the other week but I'll give him a pass because it was his first major league start.

BALTIMORE — Who would you rather have, Dustin Pedroia or Robinson Cano? For Red Sox and Yankees fans, it's a great question to debate. It's not quite Ted Williams or Joe DiMaggio, but it's a fun topic.

Cano was the American League All-Star at second base. But Pedroia is the best second baseman in the league at the moment.

Check out their stats for the season:

    Pedroia
    .295/.401/.468
    36 extra-base hits
    50 RBIs
    17 steals
    137 OPS+
    5.1 WAR

    Cano
    .294/.339/.506
    41 extra-base hits
    59 RBIs
    6 steals
    129 OPS+
    2.7 WAR

Their defense is excellent, too. You could not go wrong with either player. But right now, Pedroia is the clear choice given his 1.177 OPS in the last 35 games.

It's funny how many people began making the claim that Cano was hands down the better 2B when he was having a career year and Pedroia was injured. That claim would look silly in virtually every other year of their careers.

i would be happy with either, but i'd go with pedey. not just because i'm a sox fan, but it's the intangibles. the same things people say about varitek. the intensity, the heart, the leadership. you can't put those numbers on stats! don't get me wrong, i think Cano has one of teh prettiest swings that i have seen in years, but Pedroia gets the nod. i hope that little fucker never leaves the SOX!

    I like Pedey's 5.1 WAR compared to the 2.7
