    Sports betting

I'm not a serious gambler by any means. But I do a little betting on football, mainly for entertainment purposes.

Our provincial government makes sports betting so easy it's ridiculous. The sports betting service is called 'Pro-Line'. You can do it all on the internet of course. All you have to do is set up an account and transfer in some money from your bank account and you're good to go.

You can make a bet, or buy a ticket, with anywhere from 2 outcomes to 6 outcomes that you pick. To win the bet you have to get every outcome correct. You can mix and match with different sports on the same ticket. You can mix and match different types of bets as well. With football, there are 3 diiferent bets:

    1) Pick the game winner or pick a tie. There are 3 different outcomes. For example you pick Dallas to win, or Detroit to win, or a tie. A game is a tie if the margin of victory is 3 points or less. So if you pick Dallas to win they have to win by at least 4.

    2) Pick one team to beat the spread. Only 2 outcomes for this bet.

    3) Bet the under or over. Only 2 outcomes.

For each bet there is a multiplier number based on the betting favorites. If it's a really one-sided game the multiplier for picking the underdog will be somewhere from 6 to 9.

Today one of my bets was to take 5 underdogs to win-Dallas, Miami, Giants, Jets and Redskins. Yeah I know, it's a ridiculous longshot. My bet was $2. If I get all 5 right I win $2,400.

    I made 4 bets altogether totalling $12.

Like I say it's just for entertainment, something to keep me interested in the scores.

Anybody else do any sports betting?

I'm a fairly serious punter. I bet on horses, football (soccer), golf, rugby and tennis. I specialise in Group One middle distance races on the flat and 135+ rated steeplechasers. I'm a golf fan and feel I have a bit of an edge over other golf punters on both the PGA tour and European Tour so get some great odds. I know professionals in rugby and tennis so generally bet on advice from them.
Who delivers ten times out of ten? Thats right baby.

Clippers -9 looks like a decent bet tonight, so do the Heat -4.

Well, you were 50% right. Which is typical for betting against the spread on the NFL, NBA etc. I can usually pick half of the games right. If I could only figure out which half of my picks were the right ones I'd be all set LOL.

I've found that the only time I've made money gambling is when I go on a ridiculous hot streak. When I pick at 50% for a prolonged period of time I'm usually losing money.

Are most betting sites safe? Idk why but betting on the NHL or MLS sounds fun (too bad MLB is over)

Not all of them. SBRforum is a good source for which ones are safe.
