One of the best players in MLB today is Altuve.

Some teams dismissed him out of hand due to his size.

Chavis another homer and 2 more RBI's tonight. Brentz 2 more RBI's.

    Well Altuve is an anomaly.

"It's also a simple and indisputable fact that WAR isn't the be-all end-all in valuations, especially in real life. Wanna know why? Because an ace in run-prevention for 120 innings means more often than not, a sub-standard pitcher covering for the rest of the IP that pitcher fails to provide. You can't see value in a vacuum when a player does not provide full-time production."

Physical Description: Looks taller and heavier than listed. Strong, large frame. Somewhat stiff and will have to watch body as he matures.

Hit: Starts square with hands high. Starts on front toe and never leaves ground utilizing toe tap. Short stride, lot of upper body in swing. Long, rotational swing. Hole on the inner half, likes to get arms extended. Pitch recognition a work in progress. Lot of swing and miss. Struggles with identifying secondary offerings. Fringy bat speed.

Power: Plus raw power. Power comes mostly from strength. Needs to incorporate lower half into swing to tap into power in game especially against more advanced pitching.

    Arm: Average arm.

Field: Stiff, minimal range. First base only profile.

Run: Well below-average runner, not a part of his game.

Career Notes: Excelled against DSL competition in 2016, when he was much more physically mature than most of the rest of the league. Participated in 2016 Fall Instructional League.

Summation: Bat will be tested as he progresses through the system as hasn’t shown bat speed or the approach to succeed against more advanced pitching. First base only defense profile so will have to hit both for average and power. High risk prospect with low floor due to potential for swing and miss.
    Thank You!

Some Jay Groome video from earlier in the month. Groome has impressive size (still only 18) and a clean delivery. He has a nasty curve, watch the third pitch in the video, how that curve drops off the table. You see the same thing with the last pitch, the strikeout pitch.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slsIPKOca7o

Groome is going to have a plus fastball, perhaps a plus-plus curveball, but I don't know how his third pitch, the changeup, is coming along. But if he doesn't develop a plus changeup, he could always develop a cutter to complement his fastball and curve.

    Solid work from Mata 5.2 IP, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K's.

Not the most encouraging start from B.Johnson, 4 IP, 1 ER, 4 BB, 6 K's. The Red Sox seem to be treating him with kid gloves as if he isn't fully healthy.

    @PawSox

Since May 23, Bryce Brentz has hit 22 HR.

Entire list of players in pro baseball w/ more in that time…
    » Giancarlo Stanton
    » Cody Bellinger

In the meantime, Chris Young has a replacement level WAR. I would get Brentz on the major league roster by Sunday -- the Red Sox face the Yankees lefty on Sunday.

Another day, another incompetent start from Trey Ball. I used to feel bad for this guy for some reason and then it occurred to me that he was paid 2.75 million for sucking shit. I wish someone would pay me 2.75 million for sucking shit!

Compare Trey Ball to a really good teacher or nurse. The teacher/nurse would need to put in how many years of hard work before earning 2.75 million?

Don't go there, man. Baseball is not the real world, it's the entertainment world, and us fans are the ones who are responsible for unproven prospects getting 2.75 million...or 72.5 million if we're talking Rusney Castillo.
