    8/30 @ Chicago White Sox

RHP Rick Porcello (15-7) vs RHP Lucas Giolito (10-9, 5.85)

Between classes and the first UConn football game of the season (which I'll be on the sideline for), this will have to be made now. It's a very special day for me. Hopefully the Sox won't ruin it. Win. Dance. Repeat. x3

UCONN vs. UCF Good Luck. UCF is a real good football team. To be fair UCF and USF shouldn't be in this conference.

Giolito with 3 straight quality starts and 4 out of 5. The kid has stuff for days but didn't harness it.
    Hal sucks

To play 500 ball down the stretch, we had better win this upcoming series as we will be in deeper water later on. Lets hope Porcello will be on tonight and give us a 7 good innings.

    Betts RF

    JDM DH
    Bogie SS
    Nunez 3B
    Holt 1B
    Kinsler 2B
    Leon C
    JBJ CF

No Moreland and no Pearce. Still a good lineup. Is this the first time the four best hitters have been the first four in the lineup?

On a historical note, today marks Ted Williams, The Kid, 100th birthday. Ted can't be with us right now but the memories of the best hitter in Red Sox history, if not MLB , go on. If Ted had the seasons that he was forced to miss by service as a Marine pilot in WW2 and then again Korea during the prime of his career , his totals may well have been the best combination of batting stats in MLB history. Was very glad to have seen him live and hitting HR's.

That .482 OBP boggles the mind.

To do that one season would be mind-boggling.

Many don't know that William's actually pitched in one game during his career. In 1940, he threw 2 innings, gave up 3 hits, a run , a single strikeout and issued an intentional walk. He also played RF in 169 games.

His OBP was so high because he had nearly as many walks 2243 , as base hits 2654. Almost half his hits (42%) were for extra bases including 71 triples. Only got HBP 39 times in 7,706 AB's. Had his highest HR total from a single pitcher with 8 off Bob Feller of the Indians.
