So thats the rub though. As soon as Kelly pulls a Kelly the Game Thread, whenever it is will go absolutely ballistic and rightfully so. Kelly does not really bring much to the table and I trust him not at all under post season pressure. I would have taken Poyner just to have one. Erod needs time to warm. You are not going to bring him in a pinch. You are going to bring him when you can see the need coming with a pair of binoculars.

I hate Kelly on the roster. He has sucked for months.

Kelly is one of the least prone pitchers on the Sox to give up the long ball, which was a big factor in Cora's decision.

I posted this before. Since June 1 Kelly has an ERA of 6.13 with an OPSa of .813. Long ball or not teams are scoring at will against him. Almost any other choice would have been better.
