9-1 against the Astros, Indians, and Royals is pretty good

Are we carrying 12 or 13 pitchers? MLB site has 12, 7 relievers and 5 starters including Hector.

That leaves us with 13 position players. Subtract 9 (including DH), that leaves us with 4 depth pieces. We have as backups Sandy, Pearce and Nunez. Who am I missing?

What I'm getting at is what needs to happen to bring back Hernandez on the roster? I doubt we give up on Pearce and Nunez due to their contracts. But...

Obviously I would be pissed if Chavis gets sent down....

    If Pedey returns who goes?

    If Holt returns who goes?

Can anyone explain why a 3rd grade sprain is newsworthy years later?

I cannot wait for someone to bring up the possibility of Chavis being sent back because of any options that he may have. He provides an impact bat and is probably better from an all around perspective than any of the guys - and I do mean any - who might be due to return.

You won't hear it from me.

Chavis stays. (He'd have to go on a very long slump for me to even start to think otherwise.)

Pedey will not be DFA'd, so if he is healthy enough to be on the 25 man roster and does not want to retire, it will come down to keeping 2 out of these 3: Nunez, pearce or Holt (who apparently has 1 option left, that he can refuse).

My choice would be to trade or DFA Nunez or Pearce. Since Chavis & Holt can play 1B, I'm inclined to say good bye to Pearce, unless he starts hitting real soon.

And Pearce will start to hit, you can count on it. He's a good hitter.

I agree, but a choice might need to be made before he does.

I'd be okay with keeping Pearce over Nunez, but I'd want Holt out of the 3.

With Chavis playing 2b, Holt and Nunez are the redundancy on this team. The argument against keeping Pearce is that Moreland is playing well enough to keep him benched. But we’ve seen first half heroics from Moreland before,..

And of course Holt has the option. Stash him while Pedey is trying to give it a go, and take it from there?

The odds certainly seem to be against it.

Thornburg to IL with right hip impingement

TORONTO -- The Red Sox shuffled their bullpen prior to the early start for Thursday’s series finale in Toronto, placing Tyler Thornburg on the 10-day injured list with a right hip impingement.

Right-handed reliever Travis Lakins was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket to make his second appearance on Boston’s active roster this season. The 24-year-old had a brief stint in the Majors in late April and got into one game against the Tigers, allowing one run over 2 2/3 innings. Over 14 appearances in Triple-A this season, Lakins owns a 4.02 ERA with 15 strikeouts and 10 walks over 15 2/3 innings. Boston could use the fresh arm after Wednesday night’s 13-inning 6-5 win and the quick turnaround to Thursday, especially with Ryan Weber making the start, as he’s only expected to work into the middle innings. Manager Alex Cora said prior to the game that Lakins could give the Red Sox six outs if needed.

Thornburg’s injury continues a disappointing start to the season for the right-hander. He’s posted a 7.71 ERA over 18 2/3 innings, and while he has notched 22 strikeouts, he’s also struggled with his control (10 walks). “Before the game yesterday, he went to the training room with soreness. It’s one of those that you’ve got to stay away from him,” Cora said, adding that the club doesn’t have an exact timeline for Thornburg, but is focused on getting him right.
In his most recent outing on Tuesday against the Blue Jays, Thornburg allowed two runs on two hits and two walks over an inning of work, striking out three.

“The most frustrating thing for him is that the stuff is there,” Cora said prior to Wednesday’s game. “You see it -- 94, 95 mph. He hasn’t been able to locate his fastball when he’s ahead in counts. He hasn’t been able to put people away. The breaking ball has been inconsistent.”
I think he might need an arm amputation.

Artie Moreno would do better investing his money in a hospital, orthopedic practice, rehab center than he will do owning the Angels. Never seen a team with more key guys hurt over the last 5 years. Trout may like playing and getting paid there but he'll never have to worry about playoff pressure.

A prescient call by Bell and Moon after today's 3 hit , including HR, by Steve Pearce.
