Why would the Sox have passed on Groome because of his father? Do teams avoid Josh Donaldson because of his dad?

Groome’s father is a completely different human being that the Sox didn’t draft...

    Notable DD draftees:

    2016:
    Dalbec
    Jay Grrome
    Chatham
    Shawaryn
    Not bad considering where we were slotted (12th, 51, 88, 118, 148).

    2017:
    Houck 24
    Brannen 63
    Scherff 161
Not so good but bad slots

    2018
    Casas 26
    Decker 64
    Feltman 100
    Ward 160
    Granberg 190
    J Duran 220
Actually, apparently a very good draft considering the slots.

Jacko has been on this “family issues” kick ever since it popped up with Groome.

Donaldson's dad was in prison well before he was picked. Also, Josh was the 48th pick in the draft. Groome's dad got charged immediately after the draft and Groome was the 12th pick in the draft. The combination of timing and draft spot would have had the sox pass if they knew his dad was actively doing illegal activity in the home right up and through the draft.

Did Donaldson’s dad affect his play on the field?

Maybe the 'chip on his shoulder' made him better. Who knows? Only Jax knows, I guess.

Why? They weren’t drafting his dad.

I don’t think anyone would have passed on Groome because of his dad. His outrageous signing demands were another matter...

Also for the record, his dad was arrested 13 months after Groome was drafted.

    Do your comments still apply?

Either try Mejia in MLB or release him. Otherwise, what good is DD’s big off-season bullpen addition doing?

Have you even look at Mejia performances? 1.515 WHIP with 6.00 ERA.

His 7.00 ERA isn’t supported well by his 4.22 FIP. And most of the damage has only come in a small number of outings for him.

But most important - he’s already here and they don’t have to give up anything to give him a try. And that is VERY important since Dombrowski doesn’t appear to want to add anyone to this bullpen from the outside. So we keep seeing Josh Smith/Josh Taylor/Ryan Weber/Marcus Walden types out there in key situations in the middle innings. How many more times should that happen? Is that the preferred solution - to keep floating in the sinking ship with the only course of action being to hope it stops sinking?

    I'm with you. Try him.

I am starting to wonder if Dave is slipping into dementia or something.
