He's still fairly young. If you are alright with his prior contract, you should be okay with another 3 years. He will be the same pitcher. He doesn't rely on overpowering hitters and durability has been his strong suit He had one DL stint that was more of a phantom DL situation as he was stinking up the joint and spiraling down the drain at the time.

    Is 3 at 50 reasonable ? Incentives to say 62 ?

It's reasonable. I just don't think there's room in the budget.
Championships since purchase by John Henry group: Red Sox 4 Yankees 1

The Red Sox are 8-1 in their last 9 postseason games against the Yankees.

I would argue his current age is one of the better reasons TO sign him. He’s only 30...

It is reasonable but I think Rick makes north of $21M now on a 3 year deal. Will he take 3 years at a reduction in a contract that makes it up in incentives? This IMO is the dilemma MLB is creating for the Franchises with this loony rocket ship baseball:
    - Is MLB done fooling with rocket ships for baseballs or are they going to continue to modify the ball to promote this game of fly balls just going and going and going
    - I think they have already now gone too far but I would have said that before this year!
    - how are Franchises to value pitching and pitchers under these circumstances?
    - If it were me valuing pitchers, I would only really value the big "K" numbers pitchers in the game and everybody else could pound sand

Why would you pay big money for a Pitcher unless he at least holds the potential to K everybody when every Tom, Dick and Larry fly ball just keeps going and going and going. We do realize that the baseball they use in the Home Run Derby is NOT an official MLB baseball but is even more of a rocket ship than what is used in the regular season.....RIGHT. So they can take this even farther if they want.

I would be okay with a 3 year deal, though my preference would be 2 years. I would not offer him more than 3 years.

There's a big difference between giving a 26 year old pitcher a 4 year deal and giving a 30 year old pitcher a 4 year deal.

I disagree with the 'only 30' argument. He is likely past his peak and in decline.

No long term contracts for 30+ pitchers.

30 is old for a pitcher. I hate to point it out, but look at Sale. He turns 30 and has his worst start to a season.

And I was never a big Porcello supporter. He has always been an eminently hittable pitcher. However, I think he has done a good job for the Sox. So I agree with you about no deal more than three years.

We should create a picket line with signs saying “sign Porcello “ lol! And then rage if they don’t. But I think they will. Hopefully.

Would fans like to see Porcello extended if it means non-tendering Bradley?

    I'd *probably* do that.

I’d be wary of signing Porcello long term. Yes, he’s young, but he’s got a ton of miles on his arm. He’s got almost 400 more innings on his arm in the bigs than Sale. The guys who get big workloads early break down earlier too. See Felix, King

Put this initially in another thread, sorry
    Hal sucks
