Yankees emerging as favorites for Keuchel

I do not like this beyond a 1 or 2 year deal. This also really puts a damper on my hopes for Severino this year. I know German is fading a bit and is almost at his career IP max (lots of injuries), but I was sincerely hoping German could bridge the gap to Sevy or JMont in July. I wonder if there is an update on Sevy coming after this should we close the deal
    Hal sucks

Every day there is a new favorite to land him. We'll see where he actually lands.

He will probably sign today. You are correct, though. Where he signs, nobody knows

I don't think this has anything to do with Severino specifically. If the Yankees are serious about winning a WS this year then they need pitching depth. German is reverting back to normal and has an innings cap, Sabathia and Paxton are injury prone, Happ is a #4 or #5 at best now, and nobody knows how Sevy will look once he returns (And Monty after a year layoff? Come on). It may turn out that we don't need Keuchel if everyone pans out, but can they take that risk with a shot at the title on the line?

Let's see what type of contract he gets, I'm not sure how much money the Yankees have left in their salary cap, they've been working very hard to reset the luxury tax penalties and I don't see Cashman blowing that effort for anybody

    $13M/1

I was kinda hoping the Yanks would sign him to $40M/3.
When you say it's gonna happen now
    When exactly do you mean?

Keuchel gets $13 mil for what will amount to half a season. Wow. Braves are desperate. Yanks offered a prorated $17.9 mil, which by the time he’s gonna be ready for big league action, would have been less than $10 mil

Too much money for coupon-clipper Hal.
Championships since purchase by John Henry group: Red Sox 4 Yankees 1

The Red Sox are 8-1 in their last 9 postseason games against the Yankees.

If Keuchel pitches well, $13 mill is far from unreasonable, considering the small commitment and the potential for a playoff run at *no additional charge*. It's a sizeable if of course.

    It’s basically a pro-rated qualifying offer...

So at the end of the 2019 season, can the Braves extend a qualifying offer to Keuchel?

He is a mid-season acquisition, but not via a trade from another team...

    No, they can't.
