    Devers and Ernie Lombardi

One day in the early to mid-1930s, my father took me to a Braves-Reds game at Braves Field.

Ernie Lombardi hit a ball so hard it barlY cleared Rabbit Maranville's glove (SS) and then rattled off the bottom of the LF fence. My dad told my mother that I sat there with my mouth open for 5 minutes.

Along comes Raphael Devers. MOVE OVER, ERNIE!

    Great story.

    Devers is the real deal.
When you say it's gonna happen now
    When exactly do you mean?

I think the 8 consecutive hits was worth the month's EstraInnings expense!

Rabbit Maranville! Holy crap, I haven't heard that name in almost 60 years. For some reason, he was one of my father's favorite players ... thinking back, was it the fact that Maranville occasionally used a 'no-look' technique of catching pop-ups? (the method I recall my father attempting many times with only limited success!)
