Portland Bears would probably work, but it's boring

The only issue I have is Portland is the one semi-exciting farm name the Sox already have. They do need to purge the name “Red Sox” from all the levels below MLB and work on upgrading there...

There's already the Celtics' G League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws. Might be too similar

    Sea Dogs is ok.

Salem and Pawtucket/Worcester are the ones that need help...

I think I’d be ok with Worcester Polar Bears. Rename Polar Park “The North Pole: Home of the Polar Bears.”

Polar Soda more than gets their money’s worth for advertising revenue.

    @salemredsox
    The year is 2008.

We are no longer affiliated with the Houston Astros and new names for the club are being tossed around as we join Boston’s MiLB line-up.

The Salem Red Sox is off the table.

The team takes the field in 2009 as the Salem ???

What would you have named us?

    The million dollar question.

    The Salem Virginia Big-Eared Bats.

After the state bat of Virginia, and with the double entendre of having a baseball term in it’s nomenclature...

So to update, if I was given the chance to rebrand a few teams in the Sox minor league system

    Stays the same:
    Portland Sea Dogs
    Greenville Drive
    Lowell Spinners

    Changes:
    Worcester Polar Bears
Salem Big-Eared Bats (Or possibly Same Virginia Big-Eared Bats, as that's the actual name of the state bat. Yes, Virginia has a state bat.)

    Needs help:
    Gulf Coast Red Sox

Every Gulf Coast team is called Gulf Coast "Parent Club" for whatever reason.

    Boring, but tradition is tradition.

In that case, I'm done. Unless you have better names than Polar Bears and Big-Eared Bats, which is flat out not likely.

I need to get John Henry on the phone ASAP...

I know Worcester very, very well. Let’s rattle off some possible names for a team from Paris of the ‘80s

    The Worcester Needles
    The Worcester Crash
    The Worcester Bullets
    The Worcester Smack

Or we can take a name from anything west of Worcester and east of Springfield

    The Worcester Cow-Tippers
    The Worcester Incest
    The Worcester ATV’s

I’m intrigued as to how they’ll market New England’s second largest city. Worcester badly needs this and the money pumped in by Henry to revitalize an area that’s rife with gang violence could be huge for the city. I love Worcester, don’t get me wrong. It’s just fallen on hard times

    Worcester Saucehounds
Championships since purchase by John Henry group: Red Sox 4 Yankees 1

The Red Sox are 8-1 in their last 9 postseason games against the Yankees.

Cow Tippers? How long has it been since you’ve been to Worcester?

And it does have nice areas, although I am willing to bet no larger city has a pornographic theater next door to the public library (which I actually discovered while visiting the library.)
