For the Sox, I would trade Betts for cost controlled arm and assuming JD leaves, reload in 2021.

It sure is tempting, but I’d pass. We need a guy at the top of the rotation. With German staring at a suspension and his performance being pretty average outside of win total, he is more a mid rotation guy. Same with Tanaka. Same with Montgomery should he be healthy. Same with the upside of JA Happ. Our rotation’s upside rests with the perpetually frustrating and injured Paxton and Sevy, who missed the whole year.
While Cashman likes to hurt his competitors on the open market, I think this offseason, we’ll be focusing on hurting Houston. Outside of an ARod style overpay by an outlier, I think Cash has his sights set on Cole
The game now is depth. With these players pushing the limits of the human body in terms of strength and flexibility, they’re also getting hurt more. Everyone knows the Yanks struggles with injury, but TB had some big injuries too. They lost months from their top 3 starters in Chirinos, Snell and Glasnow. Their ROY candidate missed the back half of the year. Yet they still won mid 90s. The game is depth. Dealing Betts will add a lot of depth, but whomever takes over needs to know how to build depth from within and the outside
I was reviewing JD contract terms, if he opts-out he will be leaving "only" 60 millions on the table, including his opt-out buyout; looking at the terms, he's in a good position, he will be looking for a contract topping that number; I'm sure somebody will offer 3yrs/75Mill + an option depending on health or even 4 years straight up, it's a win-win for the Sox and JD, the Sox get their payroll flexibility and JD more money in FA
I guess the key is to reload quickly enough to take advantage of having cost controlled players in Xander, Devers, Vaz, Chavis, Hernandez, Sale, Eovaldi, Price and E Rod.
I agree with pitching depth. You need pitching depth at major league level and also in the minors. We don't have any in our minor league system.
As I get older, I just want the Sox to have a legit shot at winning the World Series. It's not as easy as it looks. Just look at the Cubs. With money, Theo and Madden, they looked like a beginning of dynasty when they won the World Series a year EARLIER than some expected.
Baseball is still just a game.
Houston has done the best job in my opinion. They've added impact starting pitching to already talented and deep baseball team. Their window of opportunity is the longest of all contenders. LA to me owned NL but the team is just a very good vs AL teams.
I used to HATE the Yankees but no longer. Sox winning four titles has spoiled me. I'll be watching to see how the reset goes.

Championships since purchase by John Henry group: Red Sox 4 Yankees 1
The Red Sox are 8-1 in their last 9 postseason games against the Yankees.
I don’t get the people who are excited for JD/Mookie to be gone. Those are two fantastic players and losing them instantly makes us way worse
It starts with Henry wanting payroll to be below $208M when we had a payroll for luxury tax purposes of $240M or so.
Both Xander's and Sale's AAV will go up for 2020. If we extend Devers, our luxury tax payroll will also go up.
Hell, I want both JD and Betts to be back and sign some more free agent pitchers. I doubt if I'll get my wish.
$208M is NOT a rumor.
