    Just for fun I compiled the postseason standings for the last 20 years 2000-2019:

    Thanks for the clarification.

    I'm not sure that we can really conclude anything from that data.

    I think we can at least conclude that NYY, STL and BOS have had a lot more success getting to the playoffs than CIN, PIT and SDP!

    Yes, they do. It is a fact that payroll has a direct relationship to long term success in the regular season, though there is little relationship to single season success. The Cards do not have the payroll that the Yankees or the Red Sox have, but they have a higher payroll than the other teams in their division, except for the Theo driven Cubs.

    Against the best opposition. Pretty incredible.

    Good stuff Bell.
    certainly seems to be a correlation between payroll and number of games played in the postseason.
    i would bet that 3 of the top 4 teams spent more then anyone else. so that would also mean that payroll equates to success in the postseason as you arent just a 1 and done WC team or getting knocked out in the divisional round.
