... just signed with the Rangers for 3 years / $30mill, which is a step for setting the market price if the Sox want to get a starter via free agency...

We haven't got that kind of money.

Yeah if we cannot afford Kyle Gibson and have no internal options, it does make a sticky situation for Bloom...

The Mission Impossible capers are cake compared to the task Bloom has been assigned.

What is strategy the rangers are trying to employ?

    The Gibson news, yes.

The cost of free agent starting pitching is relevant to the Red Sox...

The Rangers may want to be competitive in the league's toughest division.

The Rangers did the exact same with Lance Lynn last offseason and turned him into a gem. Gibson has ridiculous stuff, just had faded each of the last two seasons. Maybe the Rangers have the formula now
    Hal sucks

Sox aren't getting a SP in free agency unless he is is cheap. If they wanted someone for 10 million a year they could bring back Porcello.

I think some team (the Red Sox, maybe?) might be smart to sign a former top prospect starter who just never put it all together and convert them to a high leverage relief pitcher. Two really good candidates this year are Shelby Miller and Mike Wacha (who’s really more of a health concern)...

What about Kevin Gausman, whom the Cincinnati Reds may non-tender because of the righthander's projected 2020 arbitration salary of $10.6 million?

He'd be a possibility at the right price (whatever that is).
