Strasburg's deal includes some deferred money.

The Red Sox are 8-1 in their last 9 postseason games against the Yankees.
Deferred money is the National way. But this likely escalates Cole. Not by much mind you, but by enough. I’m thinking instead of 7-$35 mil AAV, likely 8-$36 mil AAV.
Another way the Yanks can go is a 7-$35.5 mil AAV so he sets the record, but gets $120 mil in the first 3 years with an opt out
I don't think it'll honestly impact Cole too much. He was going to get a shitload, he's still going to get a shitload

The main takeaway is that salaries still haven't stopped escalating, which is pretty amazing.

Who said salaries were going to go down?
Yes, attendance is down. Yes, viewership is down.
But, this game is still a massive cash cow to the owners. They could have paid these salaries over a decade ago and still made insane amounts of money.
When you say it's gonna happen now
When exactly do you mean?

Giants acquire Zack Cozart.
I wanted nothing to do with Cozart as an addition, but I do wonder what the Giants are thinking here after already having Cueto, Longoria, Posey, Crawford, Belt, and Samardzija making 8 figure salaries and not producing.
And then probably wondering why they can’t afford Bumgarner...
Wacha, Lindblom, and Roark are off the market.
Roark got 2/$24mill. But Lindblom and Wacha got base salaries around $3mill with incentives...
