That is why I called him a self righteous hypocrite. I am glad he is gone. Considering the potential sanctions which may be coming down and the long term damage such sanctions may cause to the Red Sox Cora now goes down as the most destructive manager in Red Sox history.

Yes! If the Sox are implicated in this big time, it will do major damage to the organization.

Still, I don't think we can really bash Cora all that hard. Yes, he's guilty, & should be punished...

But, my big fear is that this will be limited to the Sox & Astros, while other teams doing the same skate.

This is why a more aggressive & broader investigation must take place. All mlb players & coaches, past & present

Must be interviewed with immunity to get to the bottom of this, & REALLY FIND OUT how pervasive it is.

If anybody really thinks no other teams are doing this, I have real estate I'd love to sell you!

Anyway... perhaps Cora took it to new heights, but I honestly doubt it.

Cora "MAY HAVE" done it bigger & better than most, but it's all a part of that culture of pushing the rules to the edge.

Anyway, we're all big boys, & we'll take our lumps.

I just hope the mlb steps up & does it right.

Start with an anonymous survey through the union.

Next, hold closed door hearings.

Get to the bottom of things, THEN make some tough calls.

Banned for life should be completely off the table especially considering the disgusting CYA performance of Manfred and Ownership in this mess. Sorry, MLB has some big big problems that coward Manfred just exacerbates constantly.

I am NOT hopeful that MLB will do this right because Manfred has no interest in doing it right and the owners have no interest in doing the right thing. I have no idea where the PA comes down though they should really be interested in doing the right thing.

As I said earlier, the truth is the anchor chain on the good ship MLB has slipped and the anchor is on its way to crashing through the keel and I see no acknowledgment from MLB that they have any earthly idea what they face.

Great Tweet: Freese

But Freese just retired after the 2019 season. So the former Cardinals All-Star and postseason legend said on social media: “Didn’t really expect the punishments to be this harsh. Good for MLB stepping up. Still don’t know what’s more frustrating tho, an ex teammate of the WS title team talking publicly about his team cheating or so many guys being down to use a damn trash can lol. Should take the ring.”

Unfortunately, I totally agree jung.

They will lynch a few guys, & ride off onto that beautiful Cable Contracts pastures....

MLB will almost certainly investigate all credible reports of sign stealing in violation of the announced rules. For all we know the MLB investigation may clear the 2018 Red Sox of any wrongdoing.

Or not.

You honestly believe the mlb will go out of their way, knowing the anti-snitching culture amongst players, to actually find out anonymously what is going on, and try to fix it, rather than sacrificing a few scapegoats & moving on?

I think if Cora wants back in, they will make him talk?

Idk?

Maybe he does what the mlb players, owners, & managers want? Take his 1 - 2 year suspension, then come back.

In the mean time, Cora goes to work fundraising for Puerto Rico, & does some good things.

Comes back with a redemption story, & we all more on.

idk?

No earth shattering confessions.

That would certainly be best for the Sox.

Just shut up & take what's coming from his "DIRTY" years with the Astros, & leave the Sox mostly out of it?

There are a lot of other teams/GMs and managers nervous now because if you think the Astros and the Red Sox were the only teams in MLB stealing signs electronically I have some ocean front property in Tennessee for sale.

Any candidates other than Tek that anyone wants to throw out for consideration?

Until the extent of the cheating is known, it needs to be someone outside the organization.

Wake up and smell the coffee. The Sox face the loss of at least four draft picks not to mention the possibility of others in the FO being sanctioned. This could set them back years. Not to mention a forever tainted World Series title. Cora was a freaking disaster.

His departure before the punishment may have saved him from a long term banning. Nevertheless, I think he will probably have an indefinite banning with the possibility of reinstatement in two to three years.

MLB suggests these names:

In House:

1. Ron Roenicke

2. Jason Varitek

3. Carlos Febles

4. Billy McMillon

External:

1. Matt Quatraro

2. Dino Ebel

3. Joe McEwing

4. Mark Kotsay

5. Eduardo Perez

6. Hensley Meulens

Blah, blah, blah...

And Zimmer broke up a team that was in the process of winning 99 games. He was pretty destructive in his own way...

Time to hire Dusty Baker.

The man brings teams to the postseason. His big drawback is he’s terrible for rookies. But hey, the Sox have a weak farm system and will probably lose a bunch of high draft picks anyway so that shouldn’t be a problem...

I don't know if I would want Varitek to be the manager. It's not that I think he can't do the job, but he's already a Red Sox legend and fan favorite, and I'd hate to see his legacy get f***ed up if/when his tenure as a manager ends on not-so-good terms.

Ironic that he was so self righteous when he declined to visit the White House...just months after he knew he was a cheating WS manager.

I mean sure, one is cheating at a game that allows a certain amount of it (not to dissolve him of blame, he's getting everything he deserves) and the other is a racist, sexist, deceitful President that let his people suffer and die while making light of the amount of deaths - calling it a conspiracy. I mean, it's almost the same thing, I guess.

Not surprised at this at all. I kept reading that they wouldn't fire him because they'd have to pay him money which they would have been absolved of if they waited, but every employee contract has a right to termination if the employee brings the company/organisation into disrepute or worse. They may well have given him a thank you payment, but they had very right to sack him and Cora didn't have a leg to stand on.

Personally, I'm a bit sad about it all. I liked the guy, he had a great relationship with the players, but you can't go dong s*** like this. Be interesting too see who the next manager is. It's been a shocker of an off season for us and I don't see there being too good a feeling at the club this season.

Whomever you bring in, it’s not going to be a long term guy. Listen, as much as some of you want to think this is “prevalent throughout the game”, the reactions of a lot of players throughout the league show you it isn’t. Who is going to be so stupid as to react with shock publicly only to know they’re doing it too? It leaves people open to be publicly labeled a hypocrite.

As much as the Sox and Astros fans want to wish this away, it isn’t going away and the titles will be forever tainted. And if the reports are true that the Sox couldn’t do it during the POs, then it was entirely unnecessary! Also, anytime there’s a tainted team and punishments rendered, the fallout is usually a below expected performance. Everyone already knew the Sox were being budget conscious and were subtracting from an 84 win team. Now this. So I doubt the Sox will go out and hire from the outside for 2020. I’d hire Roenicke from within on an interim basis, take your lumps in 2020, then fire him and get someone from the outside to clean the slate. I’d also find out which players were the most culpable and purge them from the roster

The Astros’ draft equity lost looks to be less impactful than what the Sox will likely lose. The Astros are planned, currently, to lose pick 30 in the first then the 30th second round pick. They’re also expected to win 97 games in 2021 (based on Vegas) which puts them in line for pick 28 in the 2021 draft should they hit their expectations.

The Sox are currently slated for the 17th selection in 2020 and are likely looking at a similar or worse draft position for 2021. The lost draft capital and even bigger draft budget from the lost picks will cripple the first two drafts for Bloom should the organizational penalties be the same
