Yes, I am proposing that the skills and the mind are part of the package, not just the pure physical attributes of strength and speed.

That's also why Gretzky is on the list. He was not a great 'pure athlete', but his skills and mind for the game of hockey made him super-human at it.
Championships since purchase by John Henry group: Red Sox 4 Yankees 1

The Red Sox are 8-1 in their last 9 postseason games against the Yankees.

If it was just super freakish athletes, I’d nominate former Ravens/Patriots LB Adelius Thomas. To be that fast at that size is freakish. But he just lacked the staying power to have that great of a career.

I will say, though, the football choices were limited to offensive players. Are Rice and Brady better “superhuman athletes” who dominated their sport than, say, Lawrence Taylor and Reggie White?

Quite frankly it was just something for me to have fun with...I did think about Lawrence Taylor, absolutely.

I assumed it was posted for discussion purposes.

Best NFL players from the last 50 years? Pick two.

Tom Brady, Jerry Rice, Lawrence Taylor, Reggie White, Deion Sanders (bringing him back on a different list), Barry Sanders, other?

There are arguments to be made for any of them...

My choices for the best 2 NFL players over the last 50 years are: Lawrence Taylor & Joe Montana.

Are you picking Montana over Brady based on that analysis?

    No.

I'm a domer and was there for the 1977 championship.

The college performances tip the balance.

(Also, Reggie White was #3- not Brady.)

I love Joe Montana too, he's probably my favorite player ever. But I think Brady's record now surpasses his. Especially the 9 Super Bowl appearances to Joe's 4.

Their 'counting numbers' aren't really close.

In the town where I was born
Lived a man who sailed to sea
And he told us of his life
    In the land of submarines
So we sailed up to the sun
'Til we found a sea of green
And we lived beneath the waves
    In our yellow submarine
