In the town where I was born
Lived a man who sailed to sea
And he told us of his life
In the land of submarines
So we sailed up to the sun
'Til we found a sea of green
And we lived beneath the waves

So it's hitting mid 90's now almost all week. This is where my plant pots fail. Pots dry out quick.
I've lost three plants recently, and they can die quickly.
If any of you know what a kaffir lime tree is, or have a key lime tree. I'd appreciate some cuttings.
And man is my basil going nuts. Just two plants. We can't keep up with eating it. But homemade pesto is AMAZING!

I saw a good line the other day that sums up my experiences with the horticultural world:
"I fought the lawn, and the lawn won."
Championships since purchase by John Henry group: Red Sox 4 Yankees 1
The Red Sox are 8-1 in their last 9 postseason games against the Yankees.
LOL. I fight with my plants daily. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. It's the ultimate puzzle though growing plants, sun. dirt, heat, fertilization, pests, watering, etc.
I hate it when I lose plants, but love seeing the ones that make it grow. Wish you all could see my jasmine plants, my whole front porch smells like jasmine, it's awesome.

Oh man, I would have a hard time judging an orchid (or any kind of flower) contest. It would be so hard to narrow my choice down to just one winner.
I've been watching a lot of nature shows lately. Nature is absolutely amazing and breathtaking.
Reminds me of the Louis Armstrong song, What a Wonderful World.
It's been about 102 ave for the last week. I have way to many potted plants that need constant attention. I have them in the back and front yard. I'm going to let the ones in the back go, I can't water these ones all the time. At least the front plants I see daily and want to pay attention to them. Although the back yard has a bunch of palms I don't need to mess with and some other natives that freaking LOVE LOVE LOVE the sun.
The jasmine plants woke up again, flowers all over the place.
Lost two cuttings from lime plants which was sad, but have three jasmine cuttings that look like they will grow.
Trying to beat the heat here in Austin, next week looks like more than 100 degrees every day also.

I have a kaffir lime tree...or bush actually...growing in my yard. I planted it there years ago. I cut it down once because I kept getting stuck with the inch and a half thorns. It grew back, waterless. I am giving it water now. The leaves are used in Thai recipes. Everything in my yard (two apple trees, peach tree, pear tree, two kumquat trees, black mission fig tree) are all on a drip system, as is my raised bed vegetable garden. I have enough vegetables so that I won't need many until probably October-just mushrooms and onions I suspect. I also have a rather athletic plum tree that is producing about 200 pounds of plums every year, all ripening in about three weeks.
I've had kaffir lime bushes/trees going for years. But I forgot to water it last year and my favorite plant died. And to that I cook Thai food like a freakin champ and it is one of the most key ingredients to Thai food and it's bugging me that I don't have one. UGGGGGG. And most of the time you can buy them, but this year no go. We even bought two cuttings from the internet for about 30 bucks, and they died.
The rest of your yard sounds amazing and something I strive for. The most fun we have had with the plants we have had this year is figuring out things we can do with the top producers. I have basil pesto coming out of my ears, and Thai basil coming out of my ears. And I'd run into a burning building to save those suckers as I love them so much.
We make this weekly and it's amazing. Thai Basil.

I blame Francona on general principles 😬
I had a gopher problem until I lined my planters with stainless steel mesh. There is an 8 foot high fence around it so no squirrels or deer. Occasionally i get insects but i use Neem oil, a natural oil from the neem plant from Australia. Seems the insects eat it, feel full, don’t want to eat more and starve
I've been eating fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, and zucchini, courtesy of my neighbor, for the past 2 weeks or so. Nothing beats fresh tomatoes. She has beautiful looking peppers too, but I'm just not a fan.
