We will see about that. People know that they can vote in private and they will do the right thing in November. If you want socialism, vote for Biden. The majority of Americans who love this country aren't that stupid.

You can call me names and fit me into the group you hate with one tidy label if it makes you feel better. But I'll remain independent and unaffiliated, though ever concerned about the extreme health calamity described to me by my sources -- doctors and nurses that I personally know working in hospitals.

    WE GET IT.

Still the numbers succumbing to Covid are WAY DOWN!

Your age group has a higher probability of dying from a drug overdose, the FLU, or just about anything else.

I would submit that you have been overtaken by the hysteria, rather than following the science.

MOST STUDENTS, especially in counties with ZERO COVID DEATHS, have almost no risk.

Can you give me a scientific reason to keep these K - 12 students from returning.

NYC, LA, or other tightly packed areas, with PC wimps running the show? NO WORRIES! Pay those teachers to golf! God bless those brave teachers, and pray their handicap drops.

fuck the kids. Let them rot on the couch.

I'm not required to agree with you 100% of the time, and the moment I don't, I've fallen victim to the hysteria. Sounds about right.

I get your argument, I really do. It's just that in the current climate, I don't think opening schools can be done with EVERYBODY'S safety in mind. Schools aren't just kids only. There are bound to be countless transmissions between adults. Lunch ladies to lunch ladies, principals to teachers, teachers to teachers, teachers to paraprofessionals. The list goes on. If only kids were the concern, schools would probably be open.

People only believe sources that fit their own narrative. We have become a nation of Confirmation Bias.

And the excuses to disregard them are an open admission of this. Sure, we like to hide behind the mantra of “Fake news!” but really, few if any actually know what’s fake and what’s real. Heck, I’ve looked through synonyms.com and thesaurus.com, and neither of these pages lists “left-leaning” or “right-leaning” as synonyms for “fake.” But that’s usually all anyone used to make their call.

So few people are open-minded. The best you can do is at least not pretend to be...

Positive tests come back negative upon retesting and vice versa. We all know that the data has been horribly skewed as is most data to support a certain perspective. It is a shame that this crisis has become so politicized. I'm sorry but I do not consider you to be anymore of an authority with respect to this crisis than the many many educated people who present a different point of view. We will continue to take care of ourselves as well as we can.
Nor do I claim to be. I am just another guy with an opinion. That said, as another poster once wrote on a different Sox forum, "not all opinions are created equal". Those that are backed up by facts are more credible than those which are not.

What good is a national guideline when the president immediately undermines it the very next day? When the president exerts political pressure on governors to break the guidelines and open early, so his economic numbers improve more quickly?

It's obvious many governors are afraid of getting on the wrong side of the Donald. The list of states that opened before several or even a majority of the guidelines were met is rather large.

Here in Texas we closed schools and businesses when the numbers were much better than they are now. We still have gyms, polls, salons and most other businesses open. We just recently mandated mask-wearing in public. We are so far behind every guideline, it'snot even close, yet we are still open, and the president is glad we are. I guess being open now is an admission of a mistake in closing in March or a mistake in opening, now? Which one do you think it is?

Blaming the local governments ignores the fact that the president is playing a role in the decisions they make. Now, he's even taking the data. Let's see how that works.

Plus, there is a big difference between doing anything in large gatherings outside vs inside.

I'm not saying the protests didn't contribute to the spikes in new cases, but it appears large indoor gatherings, like crowded bars or T Rump rallies, cause more issues.

"Simple, low-cost measures like requiring masks in public would preserve as much as 5 percent of GDP, economists have estimated, as well as preventing thousands from getting sick. The supposed trade-off between public health and the economy doesn’t exist. And right now, the country is choosing not to save either."

Notin, Thunder, & other relatively open minded ....

    YES!

We can not afford to let blind fear CRIPPLE this country!

We need to be careful, but I see no other choice. It's either we open back up in a responsible way, or we bring this economy to its knees, thus thrusting this country into a Depression we may never recover from.

What do you think doctors, nurses, all health care workers, and workers in long term care facilities are doing? Do you honestly think they are living in hiding??? No! They are working with the MOST DANGEROUS INFECTED COMMUNITIES, and then they are going to the store, to the park, to their neighbors, to visit relatives, on vacations, etc.

& guess what.... Their kids are already out there playing with other kids. I don't know 1 parent anymore who has their kids on lockdown any longer. I GUARANTEE YOU that even 78 has his kids doing play dates.

How do i know these things? Well.... I look around. I've been on vacation, and I've seen the people out there. I've talked to these people, and know what they do.

I also happen to know dozens of people who work in my mom's Assisted Living community, where Covid has DIRECTLY GONE RIGHT THROUGH THERE. They go home after their shift, and they have kids and grandkids they are around every day. EVEN THE FRONT LINE WORKERS HAVE MOVED ON! They don't advertise it, but we know they have. I know dentists, who are working in the mouths of people every day, and they are out in the community.

We know grocery store workers, RESTAURANT workers & owners, guys woking in "essential logging and mills," many people working at Home Depot & Lowes, child care, hospitals, & so many areas where they see 100's if not thousands of customers per day. THEY DO NOT LIVE THEIR LIVES IN LOCKDOWN any longer.

Tell me..... WHY ARE TEACHERS NOT "ESSENTIAL WORKERS?" Why are teachers so special?

KIDS are simply not vulnerable, but Liberal Progressives & many hysterical and lazy teachers are now using "the safety of teachers" to keep this school shutdown going.

If you saw what is happening to kids, you would get it. Keep HS kids home alone all day while mom and dad go to work? Do you for 1 minute think these HS kids are going to stay home ALONE ALL DAY LONG & not see their boyfriends, girlfriends, bros, girlfriends, or anyone else?

OF COURSE NOT! Do you think most parents with young school age kids are going to continue into the school year at HOME, and not have their kids get together with other kids? NO! They will let their kids see other kids, because they know the risk is minimal.

Why are so many teachers bent on changing the narrative from teachers being HEROES in March, April, May, to "fuck you teachers, "my kid is going back to school! Give me the money, and I'm putting my kid in a private school, where they will get a better education from teachers who aren't going to hide behind the skirts of their unions so they can have a few months more 'down time?' The easy life of a teacher! Jesus fucking Christ? Didn't you bastards just get 2 FUCKING MONTHS + OFF? AFTER BEING OFF SINCE March 13th? That will be 6 months off from OUR KIDS, while WE HAVE TO GO TO WORK! ARE YOU FUCKING TEACHERS FOR REAL? We really finally got how hard you guys have to work to manage all these kids EVERY FUCKING DAY! You were our heroes! Hell, we were all thinking you deserve more money! NOW.... You don't want to go back? You all filled out surveys? You are publishing them to show 'how scared teachers are.' Teachers saying they refuse to go back? SHOW US THE FUCKING DATA? Show us the names of those refusing to teach our kids while WE GO TO WORK TO PAY THEIR FUCKING SALARIES?

Oh... You're afraid for yourself and YOUR FAMILIES, but you are willing to come to MY RESTAURANT for drinks & dinner? Often in big groups? I've seen your Facebook, and I just saw SCORES OF TRACHERS... YOU AND ALL YOUR TEACHER FRIENDS.... at a big group vacation on the coast. FUCKING PICTURES of you, your kids, your friends, your family, EVEN FUCKING GRANDMA & GRAMPA.....

    * BUT .... YOU CAN'T TEACH MY FUCKING KID while I'M at WORK? What about my fuvking health? What about MY FUCKING KIDS? WHAT ABOUT MY FUCKING FAMILY?

Why the fuck is YOUR LIFE so special? Why is YOUR FAMILY so special? Why are YOU so vulnerable? Show me the data that proves kids are spreading this?"

Look Thunder... Again, I love ya! BUT your frame of reference is a bit more narrow than that of a parent, a teacher, a person out working in an "essential work industry."

Why are you able to keep golfing? Then, maybe a drink with dad in the restaurant of the golf club after? All those restaurant workers exposed to 100's of people from all over the world? Members bringing guests from all over the country and world, exposing all those LOWER CLASS restaurant workers.... Don't you worry about those poor workers who live with their kids, aging parents, or aging grandparents? You NICE Conn golf club, that DEMANDED that these fuckers get their ass to work, or you'd get somebody else to SERVE YOU? Do you think those VULNERABLE workers don't worry about all the people you've been exposed to on your various vacations? "Damn they have so much money. I know they're going on vacation, god knows where? God know how many people they've exposed themselves to? God protect me, my kids, mama, papa, abuela, tio, y todos mi familia?"

    Thunder,

Read my reply to Notin and you carefully.

& please realize again that I am passionately making the case! IT IS NOT PERSONAL, though I almost always make it sound personal.

I do this... again.... as a foil to make the point WITH THE UTMOST EMPHASIS.

People generally don't truly understand theoretical points. It has to be framed in the context of REAL LIFE, WITH REAL EXAMPLES. Otherwise, it all comes down to ideology.

Unless you make a point to somebody in the context if YOUR REAL LIFE, or THEIR REAL LIFE, your average person can blow it off as partisan and ideological.

So please try not to take my opinions as simple hyperbole. I write consistently in a hyperbolic fashion, but my examples are REAL LIFE.

I'm not attacking you personally, but I am using real examples that are directly relevant to your life.

If I don't push you and others to really think about what all this means, you are not going to truly understand the other side.

I respect your opinions and point of view tremendously, but on some issues I would suggest your lot in life gives you less perspective to truly think deeply about what all this means in the micro.

75 -- we get how much the economy means to you, but you didn't have to hammer the kid for liking golf. Sports forums were made for sharing enthusiasm for hobbies. I mean, Thunder didn't criticize you for enjoying travel and vacations in the middle of a pandemic.

I respect your passion, but you're at your best when arguing that the actual lives some measures seek to save may actually cause the opposite. These are the angst-filled controversies we are all facing as a world... and maybe that's why people are so desperate to find diversions. Unfortunately, for many of us, some of those can be self-destructive (guilty). Let's not begrudge those with healthy hobbies.

Typical idiot Democratic big city mayor. NYC is a war zone right now. People are afraid to be on the streets.

    Dude,

AGAIN.... It's ABSOLILUTELY NOT a personal attack! Hell, if & when my MS allows me to hold & not let go of the fucking club by accident, I WILL BE OUT THERE golfing myself. I will go to the clubhouse for a cocktail! You bet your ass I will.

AGAIN.... It's a simple example to help focus attention to the broader issues in opening up. MAKING THE CASE as clearly as I can that OPENING SCHOOLS is no different than opening anything else.

Teachers ARE NOT any more special than 100's of other professions already WORKING... & THEY PAY our fucking salaries! So, I'm NOT going to hide behind the skirt of my teacher's union to milk a few more months of chill teaching at home, while the health, welfare, safety, and education of kids gets laid on poor working parents who pay my fucking salary.

Distance Learning is a pathetic joke, and it is LITERALLY HURTING kids and their families.

    Am I not being clear?
