Why is Benintendi still leading off batting .095?
Why is Benintendi still leading off batting .095?
No it’s not time to bring up some youngsters.
1. Don’t be fooled by the date. It’s still only 9 games. We’ve all seen 9 game slumps before.
2. What youngsters? Have you seen our farm? And what if they struggle for 9 games? Do we call up players even younger? Like toddlers?
3. And are you suggesting giving up On Benintendi already?
1. Each sprint game = 2.7 X 9 = 24.3 games. It's getting late early.
2. I'm ok with some call-ups at about the halfway mark, if the Sox are still on pace for a 20-40 record.
3. Absolutely not. This guy was an MLB number one prospect, a 20-20 HR/SB man his first full year at age 22, and a 4.5 WAR player the next when he led the team in hits and runs in the postseason.
There is legitimate concern about his overall power; he's just not driving the ball like he used to, and even his throws seem weaker (he led the AL in assists in '18). Beni's bat is definitely slower -- how many first pitches did he foul off late leading off last year -- maybe it's his leg kick or vision or "the book" pitchers share, but he looks like he could use a month in exile at a hitting monastery with a batting monk throwing grasshoppers at him that he swings at with chopsticks.
Beni needs help as he is lost at the plate. For those who don't want to give up on him, what is their suggestion? Leave him in when he is having trouble making contact? Clearly he has ability but needs a way to straighten himself out without hurting the team. We have two outfield prospects that would probably do as well or better at the plate.
Agree. If Beni (or any other player) has this same 10 game stretch in the middle of June (in a normal season), its just a slump. Why is it when it happens at the start of a season (any season), it's panic time.
Beni may never live up to his potential. He may also bloom later on. Time will tell.
Benintendi's career slash line: .274/.354/.438/.792 in 479 games
Here is another Sox outfielder thru his age 26 season (same age as Beninitendi): .258/.337/.440/.777 in 764 games
People who would have given up on the latter would not have had Dwight Evans patrolling right field for 19 years in Boston.
I'm not saying Beni will turn into Evans as he ages. My point is you don't give up on certain players because of a bad 10 games or even a bad season.
This team is not going to win anything this year; no matter how good the offense is, the pitching isn't there, and the loss of ERod makes that even moreso.
The Yankees could go 0-162 and it wouldn't be enough
As long as Devers continues to pull off every pitch and trying to swing out of his shoes...... we will continue to not score any runs in the first! Devers needs to drop 20 and learn to go the other way with line drives and his damn hips from flying out on every pitch
And that guy right there is who this team needs to be built around..... Bogey!!!!
Look, we have Marcus Wilson on the 30 man roster and we have Jarren Duran who we most likely will see next year. Those are the two i was speaking of. Benitenndi is in a severe slump and it's not as if he is making solid contact and is unlucky. He looks lost and is hurting the team in this abbreviated season. The Sox need him to correct his issues with the guidance of the hitting coaches and until he shows progress, how can you recommend he be on the starting lineup?
