    2020-2021 Offseason Thread

    Roenicke gone.

    JBJ?

How will Bloom spend now that the tax cap has been reset?

I don't think JBJ is back.

I think Bloom spends on two 2nd tier FAs and 4-6 one/two year capable, bridge-type players. He keeps $7-10M for summer spending, if called for. That means he spends about $60M on 6-8 FAs.

No moves he will make will be designed to hurt our chances in 2022.
When you say it's gonna happen now
    When exactly do you mean?

Depends on the salary JBJ will command- if he would take a 2 year contract at under 10 million might make sense.
I have a feeling he might get a longer contract offer but who knows?
He is clearly not a top tier FA and from watching on TV hard to tell how much his defense has regressed.
One way or the other with the pitching they have(even with improvements) need a good defensive outfield.
Beni and Verdugo fine in the corners so Blooms task is to make sure CF is taken care of

I think the best way to make sure centerfield is taken care of is to re-sign JBJ . But I'm not sure he wants to come back. From what I can see , his defense has not regressed all that much. I do think people put too much faith in some of these advanced metrics.

That's the best short synopsis for this off season Moon.

I'm not sure he's got as much money to play with as you're suggesting.
Championships since purchase by John Henry group: Red Sox 4 Yankees 1

The Red Sox are 8-1 in their last 9 postseason games against the Yankees.

Cot's has the Red Sox as about $68 million under the first tax threshold for 2021.

BUT that only includes players who are already under contract for 2021.

So it doesn't include E-Rod or Perez or any of the minimum wage guys, for starters.

A lot depends on whether they decide to exceed that threshold or not.

I don't think they are going to sign any big name guys. I think they'll go for under the radar guys and will still probably stay under the tax cap. I don't think they go over the cap again until they are ready to compete for another title.

They have seen that spending on multiple second tier names can have some success, like they did back in 2013...

I'm not going to worry about what some low level staffer posted. It's not like that came from Henry's phone.

Safe to assume Peraza is not going to be a factor. He's the foremost non-tender candidate, possibly more so than Lin and Brice...
