Was doing really well in AA. Had a 12.18 k/9. Much better than 2019. Has only appeared in 3 games in AAA. He gave up 3 runs in his first outing, but the next 3 IP were 2H, 2K, 0BB, 0R. Too early to tell. Not seen as the closer of the future anymore, but should be in MLB in the next few years.
I was actually pleasantly surprised by how several DD picks have turned out.
I expected worse due in part to low draft picks and that season with IFA signing ban.
All in all, DD did horrible with IFA’s, an area we had started doing well in under Theo and Ben.
Our farm got better faster than I expected, but it was helped by the Betts and 2020 deadline sell off, and we are still just middle tier thanks to this year’s high pick draft.
When you say it's gonna happen now
When exactly do you mean?
How much say do you think the GM has in which Int'l guys to get? I think that comes from the scouts.
2016 - Mata, Castellanos, none of the top guys worked out
2017 - none
2018 - Daniel Flores got a $3M bonus and would probably make you rethink the Int'l signee situation (you going to blame DD for him?), Danny Diaz, Antoni Flores, Bello, Rafaela, Gilberto Jimenez, Aldo Ramirez
2019 - too soon to tell: Eduardo Lopez, Eduardo Vaughn, Bryan Gonzalez, Brainer Bonaci, Winkelman Gonzalez
They got one decent guy in 2016. The 2018 class would have been great if Flores didn't pass away. The 2019 class has some guys that are really turning it up right now (Bonaci, Winkelman) and some interesting high ceiling bats in Bryan and the Eduardos.
Have Bloom's two IFA seasons been better? Aside from Bleis, none of the guys he signed are in the top 60 on SoxProspects.
A big game from Seabold, 6 IP, 1 walk, 10 strikeouts, 0 runs, 1 hit. Could Seabold get a spot start at some point with the Red Sox this year? If he follows this game up with another solid performance, he will probably be on the Red Sox's radar. In fact, it might make sense to move on from G.Richards (move him to the bullpen to see if he can be an effective 1 inning reliever), not only will Sale be returning soon, but Houck and now Seabold provide excellent depth, sufficient depth that they can proceed without using Richards in the rotation.
Downs continues to be out-of-whack (BA is now .195) with another 0 for 4 game with 3 strikeouts.
A solid Double A start from Murphy: 6 IP, 2 ER, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts.
