If I'm not mistaken, the Dodgers have maintained a top farm system (top 3?) for about a decade now while making it to the playoffs 8 years in a row. It can be done, especially when you have the financial resources like the Dodgers and the Sox have.

Didn't the Sox also do that through 2013? The farm didn't tank until the bad drafts and trades took its toll.
