Thread: 2021 Yankee Prospect Thread

Luis Gil is an absolute monster. He is up to AAA now after a mid season callup and has scuffled a bit. I think he definitely belongs on the list, although it is hard to argue with the 10 you've got there. Yoendrys Gomez has rebounded well and he has big stuff. Schmidt has ace stuff but just cannot seem to stay healthy. Yankee pitching is very deep throughout the system. Yankee MIF depth is ridiculous and CF depth is solid with Pereira and Dominguez. Where the Yanks scuffle is on the CIF and COF positions in terms of big time power guys.

Anthony Volpe has been turning heads. Turned 20 in April. Scorched A ball and got promoted to High A. Scorching the shit out of that level too. OPS over 1.000 in both stops. 20 steals in 50 games in A ball, hasnt stolen in high A. His power has been most impressive. This kid will be a top 100 prospect by season's end
    Hal sucks

Dominguez with a .904 OPS in his first 9 games in A ball as an 18 yr old. They’re slow playing him, but he has immense potential

Josh Smith is having a season for the ages. He is 23, but missed a season due to covid. He was a second rounder in 2019. Started off in A ball, and had a 1.275OPS in 11 games and rapidly moved to A+ ball. He continues to rake at a 1.056OPS clip with 9HRs in 38 games. He did have two IL stints this year which limited his availability.

Bad news, Yankees fans: according to Baseball America, the Red Sox farm system is now top 10 (9th to be exact) and is better than the Yankees farm system (ranked 19th).

"Baseball America just released its updated organizational rankings and the Red Sox have made an impressive leap into the top 10, rising from 20th to ninth, leap-frogging both the Blue Jays and Yankees in the process.

The Red Sox boast three of the game's top 100 prospects in first baseman Triston Casas (20th), outfielder Jarren Duran (22nd), and first-round pick Marcelo Mayer (32nd)."

Jacko claimed the Yanks still ranked higher than the Sox after the draft and trade deadline deals.

BA has ALWAYS overvalued systems based on the top of their farm. Adding Mayer is huge for the Sox. Having Durran progress and Casas progress gave you 3 top 50s. There’s your reason for a jump in rankings. Yanks have rarely been a top 15 farm with BA yet continually make trades from the middle of their top 30 and are able to get premium talent.

You lost value by trading away much of your "middle talent," and your top guys did not progress like ours did. We added Mayer. You did not.

Do you really think the Yankee system is better than ours?

How many low to middle guys make serious impacts compared to top 35 ones?

Face it: your farm is regressing, and ours is progressing.

We do have a gap between the top and bottom, but the big advantage you had their was weakened by your trades.

Yes. Yankees are first, everyone else is last. Red Sox are 31st.

What I’m saying is the Yanks use the top of their farm to replenish their big league talent. Luis Gil being a good example of that. They use the middle parts of their top 30 to trade for big league talent. They’ve done this all year. They got Taillon, Gallo, Rizzo, and Heaney without touching their top 5.
