Time to stop the slide, and Perez to assume the stopper role.

If we can’t hit Odorizzi and this pen, something has to change.

I’d like to see a change, today (2:10 start) with Arroyo and Verdugo batting 1 or 2.

We'll break out of this funk. Ebbs and flows of a 162 game season. Would love for it to be today so we can head to New York with at least some momentum

Perez going today. He’s been very good recently…. Trouble is. Richards and Pivetta were very good as well and we still didn’t win. Not asking for the world here, just need more than 2 runs. Wake up guys!

Our offense isn't as bad as it has been, lately.

It will come out of it. The question is "When?"

How about today??????

I'd like to see this line-up, today:

1. Verdugo LF

2. Arroyo 2B

3. JD DH

4. Devers 3B

5. Bogey SS

6. Renfroe RF

7. Santana 1B

8. Vazquez C

9. Hernandez CF

The slid we've found ourselves in comes at a perfect time for me. I've listened to about 5 innings the last 2 nights as I get settled in my new home in greater Boston.

Season to date, Astros have a run diff of +62. Only the White Sox are better at +79. Before the Sox came to town, the Astros were at +48.

Last night my relentless claim was that the Astros were stealing pitch signals. I thought so because early on they looked very comfortable hitting against Pivetta--no swings and misses, no checked swings, etc. But Pivetta just got better, so I've had to abandon that theory. Indeed, in games 2 and 3 the Sox pitching only gave up a total of 5 earned runs, which ain't bad against the team ranked 2d in MLB in runs scored and 2d in team OPS. And in game 1 the Astros simply feasted on the struggling ERod and then the inimitable Brewer.

Speaking of Houston, I've visited there several times. Way too hot for me and one of the few cities I've been in where they make an effort to enable people to avoid walking outside in the summer sun--exactly what they do in cities like Montreal where they make an effort to keep people inside to avoid the winter cold. Nevertheless, Houston's growth rate has been astronomical.

I lived in Oklahoma a couple of times and the only MLB team I could get on radio was the Astros, way back when Joe Morgan was their star hitter and 2d baseman before going to the Reds.

I trust Perez can go 6 today and keep us in arms reach of the game. Not sure what he will give up but he has been very solid lately so I think he will give us a chance

It’s the offense that needs to get going……

Yes, Houston has a vast underground, pedestrian tunnel system- complete with restaurants and shops.

Agree completely, but would remind that, most times, good pitching beats good hitting. In the first three games, the Sox four best hitters--Verdugo, JDM, Bogie, and Devers--are 6 (all singles) for 43. Verdugo got their (the BIG FOUR) only rbi, in game 1.

I agree; the problem is that Cora loves Ki'ke.

Actually, the problem may be that he loves Verdugo, JDM, Bogie, and Devers, who have stunk against Houston pitching.

You know as well as I do that teams during a 162 game schedule go thru offensive slumps. My point was that no way should a player with a OBP of .290 be leading off.

Yup, just have to find a way to grind out those games.... That is what happens in the playoffs. Have to find a way to win those games 3-2. We faced some excellent pitching without a doubt, but also squander some opportunities with men on base. Have to capitalize on those opportunities.

Today, we are going against a very average to bad pitcher..... If we can't put up 5 plus today, we are officially in a slump.

Alright, I am going to try this positive thing that some on here do.

Alright boys, try hard today and remember.... we are going against a good team so it's ok to stink up the joint and only score a run or less. You are going against a s***** pitcher, but even s*** pitchers can have good days, so all that matters is you tried very hard. If we get swept it's ok, we will break out of this soon or later. I am proud of you guys even though you have been out scored 18-4 so far and have displayed some pitiful and embarrassing baseball. Good luck boys!

How did I do :) ??

I broke into tears reading your post, Tyler.

Like he should bench one of them due to a 3 game slump?

I'm using this speech before our Little League game tonight. But I'm not letting them swing into the shift (which, against our club is to position the catcher behind home plate). Belt is the bunt sign; "B" for bunt!

Good luck with your Little League game tonight. And positioning the catcher behind home plate is an innovative idea:)

The real innovation would be to field a second catcher near the backstop to help mitigate the ungodly amount of passed balls.

@jakemkaplan

Both Carlos Correa and Kyle Tucker are off today against lefty Martín Pérez. Questionable for Dusty Baker to give them off on the same day, but both players were due for rest days. Correa hasn’t been off since May 9th, Tucker since May 5th.

The real burning question is will Devers see something besides a fastball.

After the game last night, I went back and checked the pitch by pitch logs. He has seen 48 straight fastballs. The first two games of the series was all four seamers and last night was virtually all sinkers (I think there was 1 four seamer) from the starter and then back to the four seamers from the closer.

Didn’t they say he was hitting .165 against fastballs this season? Of course, that went up with his pair of infield hits last night.
