July 20: Red Sox (Richards) @ Blue Jays (Hatch)

I can't bring myself to feel confident in any game Richards starts, but the bats seem to be alive, again, so maybe we win a slugfest.

Maybe we are surprised by a Richards gem.

Hatch is a righty, so Dalbec will likely be sitting, Santana at 1B and Kike at 2B for the injured Arroyo.

    Let's start a streak.

When you say it's gonna happen now
    When exactly do you mean?

We're catching some breaks with how the Jays rotation lined up for this series.
Championships since purchase by John Henry group: Red Sox 4 Yankees 1

The Red Sox are 8-1 in their last 9 postseason games against the Yankees.

Indeed, but they get Richards, tonight.

They should have saved some runs for tonight with Richards on the mound.

They did. They were about to score 30, but cut back.

Yes, but Cora will also have Houck available for tonight. I was impressed with his 3 shutout innings (and 49 pitches) vs. the Yankees last Friday. Whitlock will also be available, so I don't see Richards getting a lot of leeway tonight unless the Sox run out to an early and big lead.

On the other hand, Richards has made some adjustments, and in his 2 July starts he went 5 vs the A's, giving up 2 ER's, and 5 vs. the Phillies, giving up 3 ER's. He starts tonight with 11 days rest.

Houck is still coming off an injury. Would they push him that soon? I'm not sure what the plan is or if they are going to give him the April/May Whitlock treatment.

It seems like many games where we have very low hopes going into a game, we win often enough.

It's being reported that Houck will start tomorrow night.

I was going to say, I thought I heard they planned on starting Houck against Toronto, when they called him up.

Are they just giving every starter and extra day's rest?

It would seem to be the case since they are going to be in a rough stretch and some of these guys look haggard.
