    Cleveland Guardians?

Apparently that’s their new moniker. It’s harmless, I will say the say that.

I would have preferred something more Baseball oriented, but not as mundane as the Cleveland Baseball Team. But most of those names are probably boring. Like the Cleveland Bats? Yawn. Cleveland Nine? Eh. Cleveland Sluggers? Not making my nipples perk up.

My personal choice based on region and marketing ease would have been the Cleveland Rocks. Sure I’d get sick of the song eventually, but it could be fun for a while.

For a while there was a minor League hockey team called the Lake Erie Monsters (since renamed the Cleveland Monsters.) Now THAT is a name that needs to come back. Lake Erie Monsters!! Not Cleveland Monsters. Get the lake name in there like it always should have been…

Cleveland Rocks is a better name for a minor league team. I don't have a problem with Guardians. Curious to find out what my family in Ohio thinks. Big Cleveland sports fans

More MLB teams need to adopt minor league naming strategies. We need more Trash Pandas!

I feel a comfortable indifference about this.
Championships since purchase by John Henry group: Red Sox 4 Yankees 1

The Red Sox are 8-1 in their last 9 postseason games against the Yankees.

They are apparently named after the guardian statues on a bridge near the stadium. I guess they are locally famous?

Sounds silly at first, I've seen many Clevelanders mention that it's a good change. I'll differ to them.

Probably should have just gone with the Cleveland Clinics.

I think you're just testing me with that one.

If it's statues guarding structures they wanted, the "Gargoyles" would've made more money on merchandise and caused more crowd participation with mascots offending and defending themselves.

The statues are not gargoyles, but apparently they are sometimes called Titans. Cleveland Titans would have been a better name IMO, but I have a feeling it made the list at some point and was rejected for some reason…

I love names that help you understand history like the San Francisco 49ers. When did the Gold Rush migration take off in America? Thanks to the 49ers we know the year was 1849.

The Guardians is a boring name, I don't like it at all. I would want to examine history and learn more about the beginnings of Ohio as a state and Cleveland as a city and come up with a name that way.

If the name "Guardians" has some kind of historical significance for the the city of Cleveland then I like it.

That doesn't sound like some thing I would do.

NFL team names aren't trademarked. It's fair game. Giants, Cardinals, etc...

I thought they were going to choose "Native Americans". That would have been the most PC.

If they're going for PC, it would be the Cleveland BIPOC (black and indigenous people of color)
