While the Irish have much higher academic criteria that prohibits them from getting many blue chip freshman, they do have the ultimate recruiting tool at their disposal: every game is on national TV. Nobody else can say that.

Yes, we should be getting better QBs. Agreed, but maybe I'm biased. (LOL)

I'm a ND fan too. I just don't understand how we don't get great QB talent every year. We always have a dominant O line. We always have good RBs who can catch out of the backfield. We always have a Mackey award finalist at TE. We have talented WRs, but never seem to have a great QB.
    Hal sucks

They voted to go to a 12 team playoff starting in’26, but with options to start earlier, but there may be roadblocks.

This would put ND in the playoffs more often than not.

But when we always know the Irish won't be competitive in the PO, what changes?

It's nice to play in meaningful bowl games, and advancing one round will be better than we've had in ages.

Ian Book turned out pretty well, but I don’t think he was so highly rated going in.

It was good seeing Kelly loose his first game also. He’s gong to find the sledding a lot tougher in the SEC, and at LSU.

Clausen was good in '09 and Powlus wasn't bad in his So-Jr years, but no great ones for a long time.

He was one of the best QBs in school history, but he overall wasn’t that good against great competition.

Bleacher Report has Brady Quinn ('03-'06) was the only QB from this century to make the top 10 ND QB list.

The one before him was Tony Rice ('87-'89): 1989 was the last ND championship. Rick Mirer wasn't bad and came after Rice.

    Honorable mentions:
    Powlus
    no Book

He has the most wins in school history for a QB and 2nd most touchdowns behind Quinn

For a long time ND forbade Freshman from playing, so some of their career total rankings need some context.

I guess the AP doesn't think ND's loss shows they were ranked too highly.

    New rankings:
    1. AL (44 first place votes)
    2. GA (17)
    3. OH St (2)
    4. MI
    5. Clem
    6. TX A&M
    7. OK
    8. ND
    9. Baylor
    10. USC

(Blue= Teams ND plays, this year)

    We also play #21 BYU.

Book barely played his freshmen year either

True. I think maybe 2 games, but he was on the varsity team, but did not win the starter job.

That being said, Dan Devine had Joe Montana as the third string QO in 1977, my freshman year at ND.
