Of course. There is no way anyone expected this, even with the loss of Renroe and 6 weeks of Schwarber. It's not like Story had a bad history. One could have expected better from Dalbec and Verdugo from 2021. Duran & Casas seemed like possible help.

Agree. I'm bitter about not keeping Schwarber even though I understood why. I also think Story only playing for the Rockies was a clue maybe he wouldn't be so great at sea level in the AL.

But the fact is that just 3 guys are hitting on this team, which is shocking beyond belief. The entire outfield, 2b, 1b, and C stink at the plate.

It's not like he did nothing. He added Paxton, Wach and Hill to replace ERod.

He did not ignore the pen: he added Robles and Davis in the summer of '21 and Stahm & Diekman this past winter. Maybe it did not works, so well, but it's hardly ignoring the pen.

I do agree, the full plan is not being told, but I think Bloom & Co. thought we could be exciting enough to keep the fans happy, this year. So far, it hasn't worked.

I don't know, my recollection is that Jacks has been predicting a major fire sale and rebuild for us all along.
Championships since purchase by John Henry group: Red Sox 4 Yankees 1

The Red Sox are 8-1 in their last 9 postseason games against the Yankees.

But he’s always said we’d enjoy the long term product. Now suddenly he finds the short term one intolerable?

He’s a Sox fan. His insanely over-the-top outburst about Aaron Boone and his long drawn out prais of all things pinstripe just look like he’s compensating now…

I think it's way too early to pass judgment on Story. No doubt, he has done very poorly, so far, but ST'ing was delayed, and then he missed most of it and also missed time afterwards.

The jury is still out, I think he will hit fine with us.

Yes, but he has been praising Bloom as a master trader and builder. Now, he carps over everything he does.

(BTW, we may have that fire sale, this summer.)

It looks to me that what Jacks is saying is that Bloom planned for us to suck this year, as part of his long-term strategy...

Well, suck enough to be able to trade away FAs- to- be without getting roasted by fans.

That applied to 2021, too, but we all had a surprise.

Bogey now says he's open to in- season negotiations:

I'm not sure the Sox are.

I think it is all but a certainty, and he won't re-sign here.

If he does, it'll be one year later.

To me, that would be a crushing loss.

Losing Betts, then Bogey & Devers would be a major shake-up, and unless we win, right away, I'm not sure fans will be so easy to forgive.

I don't think I can every get myself to bash Henry, but that would hurt- bigtime.

Given their history of lowballing homegrown players and then trading them away (lester, betts) while paying big money to outsiders, it wouldn't be that big of a shock to me.
