Yankees are the 2022 AL East Champs

First division title since 2019. Clinch second seed. Bring on the playoffs. After being the best team in baseball for the first 3.5 months, the yanks fell into an insane 6 week slump that saw them drop to the worst team in baseball over that stretch. They’ve responded in September and now cruise into the playoffs winning the toughest division in baseball.

We shall see. I am hoping the Indians take their first round series so the Yanks can get them with home field and then someone can knock off the Stros

The Stros are solid 1 to 26. What team can trade odorizzi and then demote javier to the pen?

When Verlander went down, they had a 6 man rotation of all homegrown pitchers.

McCullers only has 7 starts, and look where they are.

    GS ERA+
    29 Valdez 144
    28 Urquidy 100
    27 Garcia 102
    26 Verlander 213
    24 Javier 146
    12 Odorizzi 104
    7 McCullers 173
    2 H Brown 68

    Their pen
    264 Maton 62 IP
    256 Montero 65
    256 Neris 64
    240 Abreu 58
    214 Stanek 52
170 Pressley 45 (He's the worst of their key 6 w 39+ IP, and he'd be best on the Sox.)

They did get to play the A's/Rangers/Angels 57 times. And only 36% of their games have been against teams over .500. That doesn't mean they aren't really good, they still won 60% of their games against teams over .500 and won the season series against they Yanks handily. Beating them will be a daunting task. That said, if they had played in the AL East I don't believe they would have the same eye-popping stats.

Their pitching has been great (.615 OPS Against for the season,) but even greater vs NYY (.560) and TBR (.503)- two likely advancing AL playoff teams (.733 v TOR)

Yanks were actually lucky to win those two games they did take from Houston. They just seem to especially underperform against them, it's probably mental at this point. Here's hoping that history doesn't repeat itself though.

    Records vs AL playoff teams:

    Astros: 26-16 (.619)
    Yankees: 30-26 (.536)
    Guardians: 12-19 (.387)
    Blue Jays: 25-32 (.439)
    Rays: 25-27 (.480)
    Mariners: 24-22 (.522)
